Library Board of Trustees Minutes of Meeting May 17, 2021 Sterling Heights Public Library 40255 Dodge Park Sterling Heights, MI 48313 586-446-2665 I. Call to Order Meeting was called to order by Chris Frezza, Chair, at 5:36p.m. II. Roll Call Members Present: Chris Frezza, Terry Hojnacki, Wendy Popko, Stacy Ziarko. Members Excused: Shirley Cozort III. Approval of Agenda Item X.C. Reconsideration of Library Material was requested to be added to the agenda. Motion to approve the agenda as amended was made by Ziarko, seconded by Hojnacki. Motion carried. IV. Approval of Minutes Motion to approve the minutes of the meeting of May 17, 2021 was made by Hojnacki, seconded by Ziarko. Motion carried. V. Communication from Citizens none VI. Monthly Reports, Statistics, and Correspondence A. Building-Wide Stats – FY2020 / FY2021 Board reviewed statistics. Circulation has picked up and PC usage has increased. The collection size for ebooks/eaudiobooks has decreased due to the expiration of some shared collections in Overdrive. B. Monthly Issues – May and June 2021 Board reviewed the monthly issues reports. Curbside service continues to be used and will remain a standard service. New pages and a PT Librarian were hired. C. Compliment/Complaint Forms Board reviewed compliments. Compliments received for the Volunteer Luncheon, the building renovations, the Mocktails program, the youth services area, and theTeen Book Boxes. Received staff compliments for the entire library staff. Board reviewed suggestions / complaints. Received suggestion to bring back “Battle of the Books” program. This suggestion was forwarded to the librarian responsible for this program. Received suggestion to offer alternative to gender identity question on library application. This question has been removed from the application. Received suggestion to offer history programs for seniors, with examples. This was forwarded to the Public Relations & Programs Coordinator. Received complaint about the temperature in the building and wearing masks. Heat/air conditioning is being fixed. Masks are no longer required to be worn in the building. Received complaint about the time that Toddler Time is offered. This will be changed back in the fall. Received complaint about the location of the hold shelves. They were moved to their old location. Received suggestion regarding the safety of the stairs leading to the second floor. VII. Suburban Library Cooperative Cooperative staff and library staff completed installation of new PCs. All in One stations were installed due to less space needed. VIII. Friends of the Library A. Bookstore Report In its first quarter back open the bookstore raised almost $8,000. The bookstore is looking to open up on Fridays in the future and the bookstore will be at the Dodge Park Farmers Market on the third Thursday in July, August and September. IX. Unfinished Business A. Building Updates The open house / ribbon cutting will be on Thursday, August 5th. Turgeon will let Board members know the exact time when she gets confirmation. A short tour will be provided along with a logo cookie for the first 200 people. B. Library 50th Anniversary Event The event is moving forward on October 2nd with a musical act, crafts, cider and donuts, and some contests. The bookstore will also be open that day. X. New Business A. Study Room Use Policy Revision Motion to approve the Study Room Use Policy revision with additional revisions was made by Ziarko, supported by Hojnacki. Motion carried. B. Conference Room Use Policy Revision Motion to approve the Conference Room Use Policy revision was made by ZIarko, supported by Hojnacki. Motion carried. C. Reconsideration of Library Material Board received recommendation from the Materials Selection Committee regarding request from patron to remove a DVD from the collection. Motion made by Frezza to keep the item in the collection, supported by Ziarko. Motion carried. XI. Adjourn Motion was made by Ziarko to adjourn, supported by Cozort. Motion carried. Meeting adjourned at 6:15 p.m.
