Library Director Rudy and Mr. Bilby offered comments. Special Presentation - Proclamation in recognition of “Week of the Young Child” Mayor Duman presented the proclamation to Callie Crosson, Social Services Department, Kelly Donnell, Suffolk Public Library, Shawna LoMonaco, Early Childhood Development Coordinator, and Tammie Rittenhouse, Chair, Early Childhood Development Commission. Ms. Rittenhouse offered remarks. Special Presentation - Proclamation in recognition of “National Child Abuse Prevention Month” Mayor Duman presented the proclamation to Callie Crosson, Social Services Department, who offered remarks. ANNOUNCEMENTS AND COMMENTS Utilizing a PowerPoint presentation, Media and Community Relations Director Timothy Kelley provided a report on the following: ribbon cutting for the Massimo Zanetti-United States American Distribution Center; the reopening of the Lake Cohoon Bridge; the upcoming community clean up; the upcoming recycling drive and tire amnesty day; Suffolk Restaurant Week; and the Commonwealth’s coronavirus vaccination finder website and customer service number. Council Member Williams congratulated the King’s Fork High School Girls Basketball Team on winning the Girls State Basketball Championship. 6 City Council Regular Meeting March 16, 2022 Council Member Williams called for information about the projects in the South Suffolk/Pleasant Hills areas. Council Member Williams opined about water and sewer rates and public transit services on Sundays. Council Member Goldberg congratulated the King’s Fork High School Girls Basketball Team on winning the Girls State Basketball Championship. Council Member Goldberg reported he attended the ribbon cutting for the Massimo Zanetti-United States American Distribution Center. Council Member Goldberg opined about the Hampton Roads Work Council’s Let’s Go to Work Program. Council Member Ward congratulated the following high school teams: the King’s Fork High School Girls Basketball Team on winning the Girls State Basketball Championship and the Nansemond River High School Boys and Girls Indoor Track Teams on winning the Boys and Girls State Indoor Track Championships. Council Member Butler Barlow congratulated the following high school teams: the King’s Fork High School Girls Basketball Team on winning the Girls State Basketball Championship and the Nansemond River High School Boys and Girls Indoor Track Teams on winning the Boys and Girls State Indoor Track Championships. Council Member Butler Barlow opined about the Loaves and Fishes Food Distribution Program. Council Member Butler Barlow announced the observance of Agricultural Literacy Week. Council Member Butler Barlow reminded residents to be aware of large agricultural machinery as they travel. Council Member Johnson thanked City Administration for their assistance with various constituent issues. Council Member Johnson opined about the reopening of the Lake Cohoon Bridge. Council Member Fawcett congratulated the King’s Fork High School Girls Basketball Team on winning the Girls State Basketball Championship. Council Member Fawcett acknowledged the King’s Fork High School Cheerleading Squad. Council Member Fawcett reported he attended the ribbon cutting for the Massimo Zanetti-United States American Distribution Center. Council Member Fawcett congratulated City Clerk Dawley on 20 years of service to the City. Council Member Fawcett encouraged residents to participate in Suffolk Restaurant Week. Council Member Fawcett opined about the reopening of the Lake Cohoon Bridge. 7 City Council Regular Meeting March 16, 2022 Council Member Fawcett encouraged residents to upcoming recycling drive and tire amnesty day. Vice Mayor Bennett congratulated the following high school teams: the King’s Fork High School Girls Basketball Team on winning the Girls State Basketball Championship and the Nansemond River High School Boys and Girls Indoor Track Teams on winning the Boys and Girls State Indoor Track Championships. Vice Mayor Bennett opined about the Suffolk Police Department’s Explorer Program. Vice Mayor Bennett opined about the automated traffic enforcement presentation at today’s Work Session. Vice Mayor Bennett thanked the Epsilon Iota Lambda, of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated for honoring him at their Annual Black Gold Gala. Vice Mayor Bennett congratulated City Clerk Dawley on 20 years of service to the City. Mayor Duman congratulated the following high school teams: the King’s Fork High School Girls Basketball Team on winning the Girls State Basketball Championship; the Nansemond River High School Boys and Girls Indoor Track Teams on winning the Boys and Girls State Indoor Track Championships, and the King’s Fork High Schools Boys Basketball Team on their undefeated season. Mayor Duman congratulated Vice Mayor Bennett and Pastor E.C. Copeland on being honored by the Epsilon Iota Lambda, of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated Annual Black and Gold Gala. Mayor Duman announced he attend the Lake Prince Woods Hospice Care Unit Ribbon Cutting and the Massimo Zanetti-United States American Distribution Center Ribbon Cutting.
