City Council Special Meeting January 2, 2025 Reorganizational Meeting of the Suffolk City Council was held in the City Council Chamber on Monday, January 2, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. PRESENT Council Members - Michael D. Duman, Mayor, presiding Leroy Bennett Shelley Butler Barlow Timothy J. Johnson John T. Rector Lue R. Ward, Jr. LeOtis L. Williams Ebony N. Wright Erika S. Dawley, City Clerk William E. Hutchings, Jr., City Attorney Albert S. Moor II, City Manager ABSENT None CALL TO ORDER Mayor Duman called the meeting to order. ELECTION OF THE VICE MAYOR Mayor Duman advised City Council opened the floor for nominations for the position of Vice Mayor. Council Member Johnson, on a motion seconded by Council Member Butler Barlow, moved to nominate and appoint Leroy Bennett to the position of Vice Mayor, by the following roll call vote: AYES: Council Members Bennett, Butler Barlow, Johnson, and Wright 4 NAYS: Mayor Duman, Council Member Rector, Ward, and Williams 4 Council Member Ward, on a motion seconded by Council Member Rector, moved to nominate and appoint LeOtis Williams to the position of Vice Mayor, by the following roll call vote: AYES: Mayor Duman, Council Members Ward and Williams 3 NAYS: Council Members Bennett, Butler Barlow, Johnson, Rector and Wright 5 Council Member Rector, on a motion seconded by Council Member Williams, moved to nominate and appoint Lue Ward to the position of Vice Mayor, by the following roll call vote: AYES: Mayor Duman, and Council Members Butler Barlow, Johnson, Rector, Ward and Williams 6 NAYS: Council Members Bennett and Wright 2 City Council Special Meeting January 2, 2025 Lue Ward was appointed as the Vice Mayor of the City of Suffolk, for a term beginning January 2, 2025, and ending December 31, 2027.
