Adjournment 2 AGENDA: December 18, 2024, Regular Session ITEM: Special Presentation – Highlighting Suffolk’s 50th Anniversary Celebrations Director of the Communications Department, Jennifer Moore, will present a video that highlights the City of Suffolk’s 50th Anniversary Celebrations. A special recognition from Governor Glenn Youngkin, will also be presented. Removal of Items from the Consent Agenda and Adoption of the Agenda Agenda Speakers AGENDA: December 18, 2024, Regular Session ITEM: Consent Agenda – A resolution to adopt the 2024 edition of the City of Suffolk’s Emergency Operations Plan, as revised This resolution is to adopt the 2024 City of Suffolk Emergency Operations Plan. This plan is an update of the 2020 Emergency Operations Plan that was originally adopted April 15, 2020. The Code of Virginia § 44-146.19 (E) requires that each jurisdiction perform a comprehensive review and revision of its Emergency Operations Plan. The revised plan shall be formally adopted by the locality’s governing body. RECOMMENDATION: Adopt the attached resolution ATTACHMENT: Resolution RESOLUTION NUMBER ____________ A RESOLUTION TO ADOPT THE 2024 EDITION OF THE CITY OF SUFFOLK’S EMERGENCY OPERATIONS PLAN, AS REVISED WHEREAS, the City Council of Suffolk, Virginia recognizes the need to prepare for, respond to, and recover from natural and manmade disasters; and, WHEREAS, the City of Suffolk has a responsibility to provide for the safety and well-being of its citizens and visitors; and, WHEREAS, Section 44-146.19(E) of the Code of Virginia requires localities to prepare and keep current an emergency operations plan; and, WHEREAS, the City of Suffolk’s Office of Emergency Management has prepared an updated Emergency Operations Plan with input from city departments and agencies in accordance with Section 30-102 of the Code of the City of Suffolk. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Suffolk, Virginia, that they approve and adopt City of Suffolk Emergency Operations Plan, in substantially the same form as the document on file in the City Clerk’s Office. IT IS FURTHER RESOLVED AND ORDERED that the Coordinator of Emergency Management or his/her designee is tasked and authorized to maintain and revise as necessary this document during the next four (4) year period or until such time it be ordered to come before this City Council. Hutchings, Jr., City Attorney AGENDA: December 18, 2024, Regular Session ITEM: Consent Agenda – A resolution declaring and rescinding a local emergency On December 5, 2024, a 42 acre fire was located at or near Pineview Road in the City of Suffolk. The fire was declared under control in the evening of December 5, 2024.
