City Council Work Session November 4, 2020 Work Session of the Suffolk City Council was held in the City Council Chamber, 442 West Washington Street, on Wednesday, November 4, 2020, 4:00 p.m. PRESENT Council Members - Mayor Linda T. Johnson, presiding Leroy Bennett, Vice Mayor Michael D. Duman Donald Z. Goldberg Roger W. Fawcett Timothy J. Johnson Curtis R. Milteer, Sr. Lue R. Ward, Jr. Albert S. Moor, Interim City Manager Helivi L. Holland, City Attorney Erika S. Dawley, City Clerk ABSENT None TRANSPORTATION PROJECTS UPDATE Utilizing a PowerPoint presentation, Public Works Director Louis Hansen gave an overview of the above referenced item. Referring to the presentation, Vice Mayor Bennett inquired about the status of the Portsmouth Boulevard Sidewalk project. Public Works Director Hansen stated that construction on that project would start in the spring. Referring to the presentation, Vice Mayor Bennett opined about Pitchkettle Road Realignment, specifically comparing the impact of alignment #1 versus alignment #2 on properties in the area. Public Works Director Hansen replied that alignment #1 does have less impact on properties in the area. Referring to the presentation, Council Member Goldberg called for the reasoning for the selection of alignment #2 for the Pitchkettle Road Realignment. Public Works Director Hansen explained that alignment #2 was selected because it was the safest option. Referring to the presentation, Council Member Fawcett queried about the timeline for property acquisition as it relates to the Bridge Road at Shoulders Hill Road Intersection Improvements. Public Works Director Hansen reported that property acquisition will hopefully start at the end of the summer or fall of next year, contingent upon funding. Referring to the presentation, Council Member Fawcett inquired about the timeline for the start of construction of the Bridge Road at Shoulders Hill Road Intersection Improvements. Public Works Director Hansen said that construction should start by the end of the summer or early this fall. 1 City Council Work Session November 4, 2020 Referring to the presentation, Council Member Johnson opined about the scope of the Holland Road Improvement Project. Public Works Director Hansen advised that at this point, there are still a variety of moving parts related to this project and at this point, he cannot speak to the scope of the project until the bids are received. Council Member Johnson asked about the installation of a new traffic signal as it relates to the Holland Road Improvement Project. Public Works Director Hansen replied that a new traffic signal will be installed in concert with the overall project.
