Secretary Fax: (757) 514-7759 blawrence@suflolkva.Lrs MINTITES OF THE CITY OF SUFFOLK ELECTORAT, BOARD MEETING NOVEMBER 6-12,2024 MEETING ATTENDEES: Jim Oaks Chairman, Brent Rowlands Vice-Chairman, Isaac Baker Secretary, Les Ward Election Officer Liaison, Burdette Lawrence General Registrar, Steve Trent, Art Breademeyer, Clinton Jenkins, Thelma Hinton, Sofia Dudkovsky, Wade Francern, Colter Austcett, Brett Hall, Wyatt Young, Deborah Kliche, Lue Ward. Not all names are spelled correctly because of illegible handwriting. The Suffolk Electoral Board meeting was held at the Voter Registration Office located at 440 Market Street, Suffolk for the purpose of conducting the Canvass pursuant to the General Election of November 5,2024, and was called to order by Chairman Jim Oaks at 9:00 a.m. NOVEMBER 6rH : At 9:03 a.m., Secretary Baker moved that the Board convene in closed session to discuss and determine qualification of voters who submitted provisional ballots pursuant to the exemption in the Code of Virginia 52.2-3711. Upon appropriate second, the motion carried by a unanimous vote of yes. At 2:00 p.m., the Board returned to open session and Secretary Baker certified that while in closed session, the Board discussed only provisional ballots as designated in the Code of Virginia $2.2-3711. The Board reconvened in open session to confim the Statement of Results entries from each precinct and compared them to the VERIS entries of November 5th. At 4:00 p.m., a motion was made and seconded to take a fifteen-minute recess. At 4:20 p.m., a motion was made and seconded to recess until 1:00 p.m. November 7th. NOVEMBER Trtr : Canvass session resumed at 1:00 p.m. and was called to order by Chairman Oaks. A motion was made by Chairrnan Oaks and seconded by Secretary Baker to explain the canvass process to the observers along with a brief recap of the events of the day from November 5th and 6th. The Board continued to confirm the Statement of Results entry from each precinct and compare them to the VERIS entries of November 511' The confirmation of the Statement of Results entry was completed. Chairman Oaks motioned to recess until November 8th at 12:00 p.m. Motion was seconded by Vice-Chairman Rowlands and carried by majority vote of yes. The Canvass meeting recessed at 4:50 p.m. NOVEMBER 8rH : Canvass resumed at 12:15 p.m. and was called to order by Chairman Oaks. Chairman Oaks motioned to move into closed session to discuss a personnel matter pursuant to the exemption in the Code of Virginia 52.2-3711. Upon appropriate second, the motion carried. The Board convened in closed session. The Board came out of closed session at 12:35 p.m. Secretary Baker certified that while in closed session, the Board discussed only the personnel matter. After moving to open session, provisional ballots submitted for counting were fed through the voting machine and security seal numbers were recorded. A motion was made and seconded to recess until 9:00 a. m. Novemb er l2th. NOVEMBER 12rH : Canvass resumed at 9:05 a.m. and was called to order by Chairman Oaks. An update on the canvass process was explained by Chairman Oaks. Seal numbers were verified by the Board before counting resumed. The meeting stood in recess for lunch from 12:00 to 1:00 p.rn. The Board reconvened to continue with the CAP precinct final count. The meeting stood in recess for dinner from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Canvass concluded at 8:15 p.m. The next Board meeting date was scheduled for January 7,2025 at 9:00 a.m A motion was made and seconded to adj oum The meeting was adjoumed at 8:1 8 p.m. ames L. A motion was made by Chairman Oaks and seconded by Secretary Baker to explain the canvass process to the observers along with a brief recap of the events of the day from November 5th and 6th. Statement of Results entry was completed. Chairman Oaks motioned to recess until November 8th at 12:00 p.m. Motion was seconded by Vice-Chairman Rowlands and carried by majority vote of yes.
