SUFFOLK LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD Meeting Minutes October 10, 2017 Board Members Present: Others Present: Mr. Sean Bilby (President) Mr. Clint S. Rudy, Director of Libraries Mrs. Nancy Creekmore (Vice-President) Mrs. Carolyn Phelps, Exec. Secretary Ms. Barbara Banze Mr. Lee Cross Board Members Absent: Mrs. Sharon Slate Mrs. Ernestine Langston Mrs. Sue Nichols • The meeting was called to order at 2:00pm by Mr. Sean Bilby, President. • Ms. Banze made a motion to accept the meeting minutes of the July 11, 2017 meeting. Ms. Cross seconded the motion and the minutes were approved by a unanimous vote of 5-0. • The Library Board received a copy of the Suffolk Library’s Fall Classes & Events. • Mr. Rudy noted that at this year’s Virginia Library Association Conference, we have six staff presenting. • This is the Literacy Council’s 30th year in existence. A tutor appreciation banquet will be held at the Planter’s Club on Tuesday, October 24. • During the recent Health and Human Relations Committee Meeting, Brenda O’Donnell, ECDC Coordinator, presented information on our early education initiative called “Ready Rosie”. • Mr. Rudy noted that during the summer we had two teens work with us under the City of Suffolk’s Stairway to Success Program. Mr. Cross suggested the Suffolk Library Advisory Board send them a letter of congratulations. • The schedule for the 2018 Suffolk Library Advisory Board meetings and locations was presented. Mrs. Creekmore made a motion to accept the schedule as presented. Ms. Banze seconded the motion and the proposed schedule dates and locations was approved by a unanimous vote of 5 – 0. The schedule is as follows: January 9th (Morgan Memorial Library), April 10th (Chuckatuck Library), July 10th (North Suffolk Library) and October 9th (Morgan Memorial Library). All meeting times will remain at 2:00PM. • The Library Board members had their picture taken in front of the Library2Go by Mr. Rudy. • The Library Board members discussed ways for public awareness of our programs and what we have to offer. • The meeting was adjourned at 3:15pm.
