SUFFOLK LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD Meeting Minutes January 8, 2019 Board Members Present: Others Present: Mr. Sean Bilby, President Mr. Clint S. Rudy, Director of Libraries Mrs. Nancy Creekmore, Vice-President Ms. Kim Armentrout, Public Library Ms. Jeanette Akujuobi Consultant (Library of Virginia) Mr. Jeffrey Benton Ms. Megan Corbett Mr. Lee Cross Mrs. Sharon Slate Board Members Absent: Mrs. Ernestine Langston • The meeting was called to order at 2:00 PM by Mr. Sean Bilby, President. • Mrs. Nancy Creekmore made a motion to accept the meeting minutes of the October 9, 2018 meeting. Mrs. Slate seconded the motion, and the minutes were approved by a unanimous vote of 7-0. • Clint S. Rudy, Director of Libraries, shared information about upcoming events and classes, the 2018-2019 Library Budget, and other library information. • Mr. Rudy also shared about the new Virginia Library Association (VLA) Affiliate Membership. This allows all staff and board members to be full members of VLA. • Suffolk Literacy Council’s annual fundraiser is Tuesday, May 14 and coincides with the GiveLocal757 regional initiative. • City Council has eliminated the Health and Human Services Standing Committee, along with most other standing committees. • Mr. Rudy shared information about the next steps in the new Downtown Library process. • Ms. Kim Armentrout, Public Library Consultant (Library of Virginia) provided an overview of the roles and responsibilities of being a member of a library advisory board. • The next meeting will be Tuesday, April 9 at 2 PM in the Morgan Memorial Library Meeting Room. • With no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 3:52 PM.
