SUFFOLK LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD Meeting Minutes October 8, 2019 Board Members Present: Others Present: Mr. Sean Bilby, President Mr. Clint S. Rudy, Director of Libraries Mrs. Nancy Creekmore, Vice-President Ms. Sarah Townsend, Assistant Director Ms. Jeanette Akujuobi of Libraries Mr. Jeffrey Benton Dr. Jennifer Brown, Youth & Family Ms. Billie Joy Langston Services Manager Mr. Lee Cross Ms. Kendra Hawkins, Technology & Ms. Megan Corbett Content Strategy Manager Board Members Absent: Mrs. Sharon Slate • The meeting was called to order at 2:00 PM by Mr. Sean Bilby, President. • Mrs. Nancy Creekmore made a motion to accept the meeting minutes of the July 9, 2019 meeting. Ms. Jeanette Akujuobi seconded the motion, and the minutes were approved by a unanimous vote of 7-0. • Clint S. Rudy, Director of Libraries, introduced Dr. Jennifer Brown, recipient of the 2019 Virginia Library Association Librarian of the Year Award; She shared her background and education as well as some of her efforts in her current role; Ms. Sarah Townsend also shared additional information about why this was a well- deserved recognition. • Mr. Rudy shared information about upcoming events and classes, the new combined City Program Guide, and other library information. • Suffolk Literacy Council’s October Tutor Coordinator Report was shared and discussed. • Mr. Rudy shared an update on the next steps in the new Downtown Library process. The responses to the RFP are being evaluated with the next steps involving the selection of the highest rated architectural firms to provide a presentation and answer questions from the evaluation team. • The proposed 2020 meeting schedule was presented for review with Ms. Megan Corbett making the motion to approve as presented with Ms. Akujuobi providing the second. Motion was approved by a unanimous vote of 7-0. • The next meeting will be Tuesday, January 14, 2020 at 2 PM in the Chuckatuck Library Meeting Room. • With no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 3:10 PM with Mr. Cross making the motion and Ms. Creekmore providing the second and adjournment was approved by a unanimous vote of 7-0.
