SUFFOLK LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD Meeting Minutes January 14, 2020 Board Members Present: Others Present: Mr. Sean Bilby, President Mr. Clint S. Rudy, Director of Libraries Mrs. Nancy Creekmore, Vice-President Ms. Sarah Townsend, Assistant Director Ms. Jeanette Akujuobi of Libraries Mr. Jeffrey Benton Mr. Bill Edwards-Bodmer, Collection Mr. Lee Cross Strategy Senior Librarian Ms. Megan Corbett Mrs. Sharon Slate Board Members Absent: Ms. Billie Joy Langston • The meeting was called to order at 2:02 PM by Mr. Sean Bilby, President. • Mr. Lee Cross made a motion to accept the meeting minutes of the October 8, 2019 meeting. Ms. Jeanette Akujuobi seconded the motion, and the minutes were approved by a unanimous vote of 7-0. • Clint S. Rudy, Director of Libraries, shared information about upcoming events and classes, the Library Annual Impact Report, the combined City Program Guide, and other library information. • Suffolk Literacy Council’s Tutor Coordinator, Jessica Reitz, will be leaving her role in February. The Council’s Personnel Committee is revising the job descriptions for both part time employees and Mr. Rudy will share the posting once it is available. • Mr. Rudy shared an update on the next steps in the new Downtown Library process. The contract is being finalized with the selected architect with community meetings, surveys, etc. following the contract approval. The Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) will discussed and approved at the Tuesday, January 21 (2 PM) Planning Commission Meeting. The CIP will then be presented to City Council at their 7 PM Meeting on Wednesday, February 5 followed by a public hearing and anticipated approval at their 7 PM meeting on Wednesday, February 19. Once approved, the first year of the CIP will become part of the 2020 – 2021 City Budget. • Ms. Sarah Townsend and Mr. Bill Edwards-Bodmer presented on the 2020 Initiative, “See YOU at the Library.” The Initiative encourages people to connect to reading by finding titles that relate to them in identity and experiences and by exploring diverse titles that reflect our diverse population in Suffolk. • The next meeting will be Tuesday, April 14, 2020 at 2 PM in the Morgan Memorial Library Meeting Room. • With no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 3:25 PM with Mr. Cross making the motion and Ms. Creekmore providing the second and adjournment was approved by a unanimous vote of 7-0.
