Summerville Beautification Committee (SBC) Meeting Minutes for March 27, 2017 Members: Special Members: B. Blackwell H. Pallay Mayor W. Johnson T. Caballero K. Taylor* L. Walton (alt. for K. Taylor) D. Haynes F. Townsend* S. Sanders T.Lawson* D. Best *indicates absence of members Called to order: 1830 @ Doty Park Depot Introductions: T. Lloyd, Mrs. Johnson, S. Sanders Speaker: Mayor W. Johnson Mayor Johnson spoke of various staff and agencies that might aide the SBC in our efforts and provided contact information to several individuals. He also spoke of infrastructure projects that might affect any future plans (e.g. Sawmill Branch and Berlin G. Myers, and the new interstate interchanges). Old Business: Available Positions Secretary and publicity chair. By-laws, Education sub-committees Ad Hoc Highway/Interchange, Sawmill/Gahagan, Reusable shopping bags sub-committees T. Lawson was unable to attend today. He was looking into doing a clean up in coordination with Parks and Recreation to tie into Earth Day and to speak with a horticulturist acquaintance of his to get a list of plants that are low maintenance but aesthetically pleasing. H. Pallay and T. Caballero visited with D. Best to discuss the SBC potential role in helping landscape Gahagan Park. H. Pallay met with R. Cornette about putting in a crosswalk near Timrod Library. She also discussed a proposal of doing a “Trash Walks & Art Walks” event where varies entities come together to speak about the environment, trash and behavior as well as how to incorporate the arts into the conversation by having local artists utilize trash to create art. T. Caballero learned the proper procedures to follow for placing a banner at the intersection of Berlin G. Myers and Trolley Rd. She tried to follow up with A. Okpych, but was unsuccessful in making contact. We do not have a logo yet. She also reached out to M. Keber of the Journal Scene via email with no response. Letter Campaign to local churches suspended until we can obtain a logo and vote on the program itself. New Business: None Meeting Closed: 1952 Respectfully Submitted, T. Caballero
