Summerville Beautification Committee (SBC) Meeting Minutes for May 22, 2017 Members: Special Members: B. Blackwell H. Pallay Mayor W. Johnson* T. Caballero K. Taylor* L. Walton (alt. for K. Schmidt* Public Attendance: Dylan Layfield Called to order: 1834 (6:34 p.m.) @ Doty Park Depot Introductions: None, S. Lyles, of Palmetto Pride called and cancelled her planned presentation. Old Business:  Sub-Committee: - Bag Campaign * D. Haynes will assist - Education - Interchange Sawmill/Gahagan - TT & AW  Open positions: Administrative Coordinator, Communications Chair, Membership Chair, Ambassador, Communications Coordinator. F. Townsend to look into what educational programs are currently in the schools and how we might piggyback/supplement. We could attend back to school nights to distribute literature. B. Blackwell will take over temporarily as recording secretary and T. Caballero will still handle turning the information to the city. Having difficulty with  Public Service Announcements Radio Slots-Due out. Membership to forward ideas. Mayor/Town will have the slots professionally voiced. We just need to come up with topics for 2-3 non-date specific announcements. Suggestion: no littering/bottles largest amount found during May 29th clean up, place bag in your car to collect empties instead throwing them out the window.  Resolution/Town Review of our by-laws. T. Caballero will check with the Town to see if they have any update on our by-laws. Is there a town- wide plan for going green? New Business:  1st Motion: F. Townsend 2nd Motion: B. Blackwell. Aproval of minutes pass as presented with one edit to the date for the next meeting.  Bulk Pickup and Litter Clean up preliminary AAR. 247 totally bags, initial miscount as there were two different styles of bags. Pick up sticks most beneficial. Several spots need to have their bags picked up as Waste Pro left them. Difficult to coordinate due to two week turn around. Communication difficulty with other community groups and town officials. Miscommunication with Waste Pro concerning flyers. If we do another during warmer weather we may have to look into having a mist tent.  Discussed training for board members to be able to give educational briefings to community groups, town organizations, etc.  Discussed changing of lights in Hutchinson square to be of the same light-either all cool spectrum or all warm spectrum.  Hutchison square utility wall. The backside is an eyesore. Could a screen or decorative plants or a combination of both be placed? T. Caballero to contact D. Best to inquire.
