Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee Meeting Bicycle Workshop August 21, 2019 Summerville Town Hall, Training Room 9:00 a.m. Attendees: Members: Rick Reiff,, Phyllis Thornwaite, Kelley Johnson, Sarah Bares, John Mott, John Pardee Visitors: Bonnie Miley, Town of Summerville, Mayor Johnson, Town of Summerville, Karen Fairchild, Town of Summerville, Eric Davis, Dorchester County Parks, Sarah Cox, BCDCOG. John Pardee opened the workshop saying that the purpose for meeting was to begin a Byciycle Plan for Summerville. The committee and visitors reviewed the current town maps, as well as online sources such as Strava and maps created by John Mott and the COG map presented by Sarah Cox. Eric Davis reviewed some of the current and future projects of Dorchester County. Karen Fairchild outlined her needs for data to complete the bike and sidewalk path inventory. The committee agreed that connectivity is our main goal, and summarized the priorities, including but not limited to: SMB trail connection to Maple St. extension SMB trail connection to Hwy. 78, going under the railroad tracks SMB trail connection/ extension to Jockey Court with connection to Holiday Drive Bicycle access and designations on Doty and West Luke St. Main Street access and connection to the Bear Island Pkwy BGM - multi-use paths on the current pkwy and the extension 17A and I26 bicycle access Laurel St. North - bicycle access It was agreed that we need to approach this plan in two parts - documenting what we currently have in place for bike access, and then identifying what we need/want for the future.
