City of Sunnyvale Meeting Minutes - Final Arts Commission Wednesday, January 17, 2024 7:00 PM Online and Bay Conference Room, City Hall, 456 W. Olive Ave., Sunnyvale, CA 94086 CALL TO ORDER Chair Veith called the meeting to order at 7:02 p.m. SALUTE TO THE FLAG Chair Veith led the salute to the United States flag. ROLL CALL Present: 5 - Chair Agnes Veith Vice Chair Kathryn Filley Commissioner Dawna Eskridge Commissioner Molly Kauffman Commissioner Winnie Lam Council Liaison Klein (present) PRESENTATION A 24-0135 Discuss Cultural Art Partnerships Commissioners collectively discussed the potential cultural arts partnerships. Commissioners inquired and staff responded: Can commissioners facilitate partnerships with other commissions? Yes. Commissioners can attend other commissions as a member of the public to collaborate on ideas. Can staff target a specific group when they do a call for artists? Yes. Depending on the project, staff can request certain information be provided when calling for artists. B 24-0175 Discuss Commission Artwork Projects for 2024 City of Sunnyvale Page 1 Arts Commission Meeting Minutes - Final January 17, 2024 Recreation Services Manager, Trenton Hill, and Recreation Services Coordinator, Kristin Dance, provided a presentation on previous commission artwork projects. Commissioners inquired and staff responded: How does staff gather materials for art projects? Staff posts city-wide announcements and place collection boxes at the Library, Senior Center and Community Center. Kristin noted that commissioners can email her ideas by February 14, and she'll return with flushed out ideas. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS None. CONSENT CALENDAR Commissioner Eskridge moved and Chair Veith seconded the motion to Approve the Arts Commission Minutes of November 15, 2023 as submitted. The motion carried by the following vote: Yes: 5 - Chair Veith Vice Chair Filley Commissioner Eskridge Commissioner Kauffman Commissioner Lam No: 0 1 24-0173 Approve the Arts Commission Meeting Minutes of November 15, 2023 Approve the Arts Commission Minutes of November 15, 2023 as submitted. PUBLIC HEARINGS/GENERAL BUSINESS 2 24-0134 Rank 2024 Study Issues Commissioners collectively discussed the study issues. Staff conducted a random voice vote. See the study issue ranking results below: 1. CDD 23-04 Explore Expanding Sunnyvale Municipal Code Chapter 19.52 (Art in Private Development) to Include a Public Art Requirement for High Density Residential Developments (Including Affordable Housing) City of Sunnyvale Page 2 Arts Commission Meeting Minutes - Final January 17, 2024 2. DPW 24-01 Evaluate the Feasibility of an Art Crosswalk Program or Policy Chair Veith moved and Vice Chair Filley seconded the motion to Approve the Study Issues Ranking as shown. The motion carried by the following vote: Yes: 5 - Chair Veith Vice Chair Filley Commissioner Eskridge Commissioner Kauffman Commissioner Lam No: 0 STANDING ITEM: CONSIDERATION OF POTENTIAL STUDY ISSUES None. NON-AGENDA ITEMS & COMMENTS -Commissioner Comments None. -Staff Comments Kristin Dance informed the Commission that February 1 was the deadline for patrons to submit artist applications for the Hands on the Arts event. Mayor Klein introduced himself to the Commission and noted that he would be the Council Liaison for the next six months.
