Highlighting the following: - Workflow for Sidewalk Repairs - Workflow in Detail - Average 5-10 requests per week - Backlog has 4,500 entries - Types of sidewalk condtions - Types of Sidewalk Repairs - Temporary - Types of Sidewalk Repairs - Permanent - Challenges - Each location is different - Inflation - CIP(Capital Improvement Project) 829400 - Sidewalk, Curb and Gutter Replacement (Annual) - ADA upgrades - Upgrades to City Facilities Commissioner Liu asked about the following: - Why can't the temporary repairs remain permanent? - How come only 1/9 of the budget will be used to address the backlog? - Will the City increase the budget and staffing to reduce the backlog? Ms. Wong and Ms. Tsang addressed the questions. Chair Mehlman asked about the following: - Are all sidewalks that are not on private property considered City property? Ms. Tsang addressed the question. Vice Chair Beagle asked about the following: - How many of the 4500 items listed in the backlog are very serious to not as serious to fix? - How far along is the City with installing ADA ramps? - Is there a total cost of the remaining work to be done for installing ADA ramps? - Would the City consider installing driveway ramps that provide continuously level sidewalks? Commissioner Hafeman commented and asked about the following: - Thanked City staff for their quick response to Access Sunnyvale submissions - Does City staff actively inspect the City sidewalks on a continuous basis for repairs? - Will the City spend money on fixing the temporary solutions permanently if they don't get worse after the temporary fix? - Why hasn't asphalt been considered for the sidewalks? Ms Tsang addressed the questions. Commissioner Bonne asked about the following: - Why is it that in 25% of cases, tree removal is considered an option in this era of global warming? Also, who is responsible for making this decision? Ms. Tsang addressed the question. Chair Mehlman asked about the following: - Does the City Arborist review the trees? The motion carried by the following vote: Yes 6 - Chair Mehlman Vice Chair Beagle Commissioner Bonne Commissioner Davé Hafeman Commissioner Liu No 0 Absent 1 - Commissioner Oey PUBLIC HEARINGS/GENERAL BUSINESS City of Sunnyvale Page 4 Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Meeting Minutes - Final June 15, 2023 Commission 2 23-0664 Report and Discussion of Recent Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee (BPAC) Meeting Commissioner Bonne, VTA BPAC Sunnyvale Representative, gave the meeting summary report for June regarding the following topics: - Presentation by VTA GM/CEO Carolyn Gonot - 2023 budget is the 1st in 10 years to show a surplus - US101/Blossom Hill Rd Interchange Improvement Project won the APWA (American Public Works Association) Project of the Year Award - Saturday, June 12 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. - 2024 Transit Service Plan online meeting - Thursday, June 29 - Community meeting for Transit-Oriented Development Project, Berryessa/North San Jose Transit Center - New customer service center in San Jose on North Market Street, M-F from 9-6:00 p.m. - Summer Youth Pass is for 3 months of travel for $70 for anyone under 18 years old - VTA will provide lobbying assistance to cities when applying for State or Federal funding. Also willing to review grant applications - VTA Vanpool subsidy: $800 month towards cost of shared van. 5-15 participants. Must be open to the public and entire trip must be within Santa Clara County - Update on the Guaranteed Ride Home Program given by Lauren Ledbetter - Guaranteed Ride Home Program begins in June 2023 - Register at grh.vta.org - Presentation by Adam Burger, Innovative Mobility Program Manager, on the Wheels on the Bus Real-time Data Project.
