City of Sunnyvale Meeting Minutes - Final Heritage Preservation Commission Wednesday, November 2, 2016 7:00 PM West Conference Room, City Hall, 456 W. Olive Ave., Sunnyvale, CA 94086 CALL TO ORDER Chair Michitaka called the meeting to order. SALUTE TO THE FLAG Chair Michitaka led the salute to the flag. ROLL CALL Present: 5 - Chair Mike Michitaka Vice Chair Hannalore Dietrich Commissioner Dale Mouritsen Commissioner Dixie Larsen Commissioner Kenneth Valenzuela Absent: 1 - Commissioner Dawn Hopkins ORAL COMMUNICATIONS None. CONSENT CALENDAR 1.A. 16-1017 Approve the Heritage Preservation Commission Meeting Minutes of October 5, 2016 Vice Chair Dietrich moved to approve the Draft Heritage Preservation Commission Draft Minutes of November 2, 2016. Comm. Mouritsen seconded. The Motion carried by the following vote: Yes: 4 - Chair Michitaka Vice Chair Dietrich Commissioner Mouritsen Commissioner Larsen No: 0 Absent: 1 - Commissioner Hopkins City of Sunnyvale Page 1 Heritage Preservation Commission Meeting Minutes - Final November 2, 2016 Abstain: 1 - Commissioner Valenzuela PUBLIC HEARINGS/GENERAL BUSINESS None. STANDING ITEM: CONSIDERATION OF POTENTIAL STUDY ISSUES None. NON-AGENDA ITEMS & COMMENTS -Commissioner Comments Chair Michitaka discussed the joint Study Session with City Council. INFORMATION ONLY REPORTS/ITEMS None. 2. 16-1036 Update on the consideration to Initiate the Heritage Resource Nomination Process for Six (6) Trees on 871 E. Fremont Avenue (Butcher's Corner) Noren Caliva-Lepe presented an update on the pending Heritage Resource Nomination study for six oak trees on the Butcher Property. Ms. Caliva-Lepe noted that no action on the study was required at this time and that the study is scheduled for public hearings on December 7, 2016 to the (Heritage Preservation Commission) and December 13, 2016 (City Council). Mary Brunkhorst, member of the public, believes that tree 123 and 126 should be preserved as well. Comm. Larsen asked the reasoning behind Ms. Brunkhorst's recommendation. Ms. Brunkhorst replied that she believes that these trees are the most valuable as far as aesthetics and health are concerned. Mrs. Caliva-Lepe noted that the City Council can also require trees to be preserved without deeming them as a Heritage Resource. ADJOURNMENT Chair Michitaka adjourned the meeting at 7:44 pm.
