City of Sunnyvale Meeting Minutes - Final Heritage Preservation Commission Wednesday, January 11, 2017 7:00 PM West Conference Room, City Hall, 456 W. Olive Ave., Sunnyvale, CA 94086 CALL TO ORDER Chair Michitaka called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. SALUTE TO THE FLAG Chair Michitaka led the Salute to the Flag. ROLL CALL Chair Michitaka noted Comm. Mouritsen's planned absence. Present: 5 - Chair Mike Michitaka Vice Chair Hannalore Dietrich Commissioner Dawn Hopkins Commissioner Dixie Larsen Commissioner Kenneth Valenzuela Absent: 1 - Commissioner Dale Mouritsen PRESENTATION None ORAL COMMUNICATIONS None CONSENT CALENDAR 1.A. 17-0038 Approve the Heritage Preservation Commission Meeting Minutes of December 7, 2016 Comm.Hopkins made a motion to approve the Draft Heritage Preservation Commission Meeting Minutes of December 7, 2016 with a minor clarification; to clarify she was referring to Heritage Tree #106 in the third paragraph of page three. Comm. Valenzuela seconded. Motion carried by the following vote: City of Sunnyvale Page 1 Heritage Preservation Commission Meeting Minutes - Final January 11, 2017 Yes: 5 - Chair Michitaka Vice Chair Dietrich Commissioner Hopkins Commissioner Larsen Commissioner Valenzuela No: 0 Absent: 1 - Commissioner Mouritsen PUBLIC HEARINGS/GENERAL BUSINESS 2. 17-0037 Review of Code of Ethics and Conduct Noren Caliva-Lepe, Senior Planner, noted the Code of Ethics was distributed as an annual review. 3. 17-0039 Discussion and Adoption of Final 2017 Work Plan Ms. Caliva-Lepe summarized the 2017 Work Plan and said that a February meeting will not be needed as there are no upcoming permit applications. She discussed possible training topics and asked if the Commission had any suggestions. Comm. Larsen noted interest in historic architecture training. Comm. Dietrich noted a conversation with the Mayor regarding Heritage Resources (tree) and suggested that training regarding the City's Heritage Resources would be useful. Comm. Dietrich also expressed interest in a possible City walking tour and an art gallery. Chair Michitaka noted that a tour of the Sunnyvale Heritage Park Museum may be a good training opportunity and training regarding the Eichler homes and the neighborhoods. Comm. Larsen noted that many Heritage Resources in the City are spread around the City and a "driving tour" may be more appropriate. Update on Butcher's Corner Heritage Tree Study Ms. Caliva-Lepe updated the Commission that City Council approved to designate four of the six proposed trees as a Heritage Resource within the Butchers Corner project. She further summarized the Butchers Corner proposal. Comm. Larsen clarified that a proposed hotel has been approved across from the Butchers Corner project (formerly known as Summerwinds Nursery) on the northwest corner of El Camino Real and Wolfe Road.
