CALL TO ORDER
Chair Larsen called the meeting to order.

Chair Larsen led the salute to the flag.
ROLL CALL
Senior Planner George Schroeder noted that he received an advanced notice of
newly appointed Commissioner Hakami's planned absence.

CONSENT CALENDAR
1.A. 20-0191 Approve the Draft Heritage Preservation Commission Meeting Minutes
of December 4, 2019
Motion:
Chair Larsen moved to modify #4 of the Conditions of Approval to #2019-7442 as
follows:
4) The natural screening shall be present at all times when the artificial screening is

removed.
Commissioner Caroompas seconded.
Motion carried as follows:

PUBLIC HEARINGS/GENERAL BUSINESS
2. 20-0190 Selection and Ranking of Potential Study Issues
Senior Planner George Schroeder discussed each study issue for ranking this
evening.
Commissioner Caroompas asked of other options the commissioners have to speak
about their views on study issues and other comments and Mr. Schroeder
responded and stated that they may attend the Council Study Issue meeting and
speak on their own behalf.
Commissioner Wu noted that he has brought several books that refer to
Sunnyvale's history and would like to see Study Issue CDD 19-04 to follow the
same format as the books, in particular “Images of America – Sunnyvale”.
Commissioners ranked the study issues as follows:
1) 18-02: Update and Review of the Heritage Resource Inventory
2) 19-04: Update to the Historical Context Statement to Include Historical
Contributions Made by Asian Americans and Other Minority Groups
3) 19-06: Programs to Encourage Visitation to Heritage and Landmark Resources
Commissioner Caroompas motioned the ranking voting results and Commissioner
Hopkins seconded.

STANDING ITEM: CONSIDERATION OF POTENTIAL STUDY ISSUES
Commissioners discussed the study issues in general and proposed new ideas that
may be related to the current study issues and Mr. Schroeder responded that the
Commission may propose study issues at any time; however, they may not propose
any new revisions to the current study issues being ranked this evening.
