SALUTE TO THE FLAG Chair Johnson led the salute to the flag. CONSENT CALENDAR 1. 24-1029 Approve the Draft Heritage Preservation Commission Meeting Minutes of June 5, 2024 Commissioner Sofaer moved and Commissioner McManis seconded the motion to City of Sunnyvale Page 1 Heritage Preservation Commission Meeting Minutes October 2, 2024 approve the Draft Heritage Preservation Commission Meeting Minutes of June 5, 2024, as submitted. Yes: 4 - Chair Johnson Commissioner McManis Commissioner Rawal Vice Chair Sofaer No: 0 Absent: 3 - Commissioner Garrett Commissioner Rajkumar Commissioner Sharma PUBLIC HEARINGS/GENERAL BUSINESS 2. 24-1037 Selection of Chair MOTION: Commissioner McManis motioned to nominate Chair Johnson to continue to serve as Chair. Chair Johnson motioned to nominate Commissioner Garrett. Commissioner Rawal seconded Commissioner McManis' motion to nominate Chair Johnson to continue to serve as Chair. Yes: 4 - Chair Johnson Commissioner McManis Commissioner Rawal Vice Chair Sofaer No: 0 Absent: 3 - Commissioner Garrett Commissioner Rajkumar Commissioner Sharma 3. 24-1039 Selection of Vice Chair Commissioner McManis noted that although he would be interested to serve as Vice Chair, he noted that he was not ready since he has just been appointed to serve the Commission. MOTION: Commissioner Sofaer moved to nominate self and Commissioner McManis City of Sunnyvale Page 2 Heritage Preservation Commission Meeting Minutes October 2, 2024 seconded the motion for Commissioner Sofaer to serve as the Vice Chair. The motioned carried by the following vote: Yes: 4 - Chair Johnson Commissioner McManis Commissioner Rawal Vice Chair Sofaer No: 0 Absent: 3 - Commissioner Garrett Commissioner Rajkumar Commissioner Sharma STANDING ITEM: CONSIDERATION OF POTENTIAL STUDY ISSUES Final Month to Propose Study Issues Commissioner McManis proposed a study issue of Historical Impacts of Sunnyvale on the nation and world. Senior Planner Momoko Ishijima commented that the subject may need to be focused. The Technological Innovations study issue is currently studying post-war technological impacts of Sunnyvale. Councilmember Mehlinger spoke that the study issue to revise the Historical Context Statement to include contributions by Asian Americans and other minorities may be related. A vote was not made on the study issue proposal. Such a determination shall be made prior to opening public comment on Oral Communications. This category provides an opportunity for members of the public to address the Heritage Preservation Commission on items not listed on the agenda and is limited to 15 minutes (may be extended or continued after the public hearings/general business section of the agenda at the discretion of the Chair) with a maximum of up to three minutes per speaker. Please note the Brown Act (Open Meeting Law) does not allow the Heritage Preservation Commission to take action on an item not listed on the agenda.
