City of Sunnyvale Meeting Minutes - Final Housing and Human Services Commission Wednesday, February 24, 2016 7:00 PM West Conference Room, City Hall, 456 W. Olive Ave., Sunnyvale, CA 94086 CALL TO ORDER Chair Evans called the meeting to order at 7 p.m. SALUTE TO THE FLAG Chair Evans led the salute to the flag. ROLL CALL Present: 6 - Chair Patti Evans Vice Chair Barbara Schmidt Commissioner Dennis Chiu Commissioner Diana Gilbert Commissioner Younil Jeong Commissioner Narendra Pathak PRESENTATION 16-0194 Proposals for CDBG/HOME Capital Projects for FY 2016-17 Housing officer Suzanne Isé gave a brief overview of the Request for Proposals (RFP) that the Housing Division issued in mid-January and explained that the two presentations tonight were in response to that RFP. MidPen Housing Project Manager Matt Lewis gave a short slide presentation about MidPen's proposal requesting $800,000 request in CDBG and HOME funds for its proposed 66-unit affordable rental housing and sidewalk extension project located at 460 Persian Drive in Sunnyvale. He noted that the project is named Edwina Benner Plaza in honor of California's first female mayor and former Mayor of the City of Sunnyvale. He answered commissioners questions and encouraged them to support the project. Sunnyvale Community Services (SCS) Executive Director Marie Bernard, Downtown Streets Team Project Manager Greg Pensinger, and Our Daily Bread Program Director David Barnes gave an overview of the Work First Sunnyvale City of Sunnyvale Page 1 Housing and Human Services Meeting Minutes - Final February 24, 2016 Commission program, and shared several success stories of clients who have been able to secure and maintain employment for more than 90 days and/or obtain permanent housing thorugh this program. In order to continue to provide the Work First program in Sunnyvale, SCS is requesting $404,225 in CDBG funds for FY 2016-17. The presenters answered questions of commissioners and urged them to support their request. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS None. CONSENT CALENDAR 1.A 16-0217 Draft Minutes of the Housing and Human Services Commission Meeting of January 20, 2016 Commissioner Gilbert moved and Vice Chair Schmidt seconded the motion to approve the consent calendar which is comprised of the draft minutes of the Housing and Human Services Commission meeting of January 20, 2016. The motion carried by the following vote: Yes: 4 - Chair Evans Vice Chair Schmidt Commissioner Gilbert Commissioner Pathak No: 0 Absent: 1 - Commissioner Jeong Abstain: 1 - Commissioner Chiu Commissioner Jeong had stepped out of the meeting briefly when voting on this item took place.
