CALL TO ORDER
Chair Alexander III called the meeting to order at 7:01 p.m. in the Council
Chambers.

CONSENT CALENDAR
1.A 17-0215 Approval of the Parks and Recreation Commission Meeting
Minutes of January 11, 2017
Commissioner Pasqua moved, and Commissioner Kenton seconded, approval of
the Consent Calendar as presented. The motion was carried by the following vote:

PUBLIC HEARINGS/GENERAL BUSINESS
2 17-0216 Review Master Work Plan
Superintendent Wax provided an overview of the draft Master Work Plan including
the upcoming events: Hand on the Arts Festival on May 20, and the Fit and Fun
Fair on April 29.
Superintendent Stark announced the City will be joining with the Sunnyvale School
District in commemorating Arbor Day with a tree planting at San Miguel Elementary
School on March 7, and celebrating Arbor Day by planting street trees in the San
Miguel neighborhood on March 11.
Commissioner Pasqua requested the fee structure for the City's recreational
facilities in comparison to other local cities. Staff will provide Commissioners with a
benchmarking comparison of recreational facilities from cities in Santa Clara
County.
3 17-0217 Orchard Heritage Museum Interactive Exhibit
Superintendent Stark provided information about the Orchard Heritage Museum
Interactive Exhibit. The exhibit commemorates the history of agriculture in our area.
A Sunnyvale resident donated three panels to the exhibit that will recognize the
Yugoslavian Orchardists of Sunnyvale.
Chair Alexander III opened for public hearing, and there being no public comments,
closed the public hearing.

Commissioner Pasqua inquired about the Vale Development project.
Superintendent Stark indicated an update on the Vale Development project will be
provided at the Parks and Recreation Commission meeting on March 8.

-Staff Comments
Superintendent Stark provided an update on the restaurant at the Sunnyvale Golf
Course, and a California state law regarding public bathrooms.
The restaurant at the Sunnyvale Golf Course is anticipated to open in March, and
any single-user restroom, which can be locked from the inside, will be marked
"Unisex" and no longer be marked "Men" or "Women." This law will affect two park
bathrooms; Seven Seas Park and Lakewood Park.
Superintendent Wax announced the Community Services Division is being
awarded the statewide "Award of Excellence" by the California Parks and
Recreation Society (CPRS) for the social media campaign celebrating "Parks and
Recreation Month" in July 2016. In addition, the City is being recognized locally by
CPRS District 4 for the State of the City event and the Cities response to the Twin
Pines fire. A Columbia Neighborhood Center volunteer is also being recognized.
