CALL TO ORDER
Chair Kesting called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.
SALUTE TO THE FLAG
Chair Kesting led the salute to the United States flag.

PRESENTATION
A 24-1205 Outdoor Sports Assessment Study
Tracey Gott, Recreation Services Manager, Michelle Perera, Director of Library and
Recreation Services, and Pat Healy, consultant, provided a presentation on the
Sunnyvale Sports Assessment Study. Highlights included: community input process,
park assessment, facility design, cost analysis, and recommendations.
Chair Kesting opened for public comment.
Vanessa S., Jason T., Micky K., Manoj, Mourya, Emillie, and Pramod are
proponents for improving access to pickle ball courts. They cited that it is a sport
that is inclusive of any age or abilities.
Henry S. is a proponent for different activities having their own dedicated space and

resources, citing that potential parking and noise issues could result if they were
shared.
Kunal, Shreesh, Reeza, and Varista are proponents for more access to cricket fields
in the City of Sunnyvale. They cited that they currently have a hard time finding
places to play in Sunnyvale. Currently, residents need to play in a different city if
they don't want to pay to play cricket. Additionally, its a great activity for the youth of
Sunnyvale.
Nani is a proponent of more access to ultimate frisbee spaces. The sport allows
members of the community to engage with and get to know each other.
Chair Kesting closed for public comment.
Commissioners inquired and staff responded:
Is the cost allocation presented only for cricket, or including allocation of funds to
support other sports as well? The cost of lighting is the only part of the cost analysis
that is inclusive of all sports because the recommendations include lighting the
entire field.
How will the overlay of pickle ball courts on top of basketball and tennis courts allow
distinction between the different courts? The colors are different for each sport's
court, creating a distinction.
Commissioners asked if staff could provide a cost breakdown for lighting and grass
to better understand the pricing. Additionally, they asked if the matrix on the
presentation could be corrected. Currently there are no lights for cricket at Ortega
Park.
Commissioners were in agreement that they support the recommendations to
include cricket fields and pickle ball courts in the re-envisioning at Las Palmas Park,
but not support for overlay of any kind on the current basketball or tennis courts.
ORAL COMMUNICATIONS
Ed B. inquired about where residents could report maintenance issues of the
volleyball courts in Sunnyvale parks. Jim Stark, Superintendent of Parks and Golf,
responded that members of the public could go to the city website.
