City of Sunnyvale Meeting Minutes - Final Sustainability Commission Monday, September 19, 2022 7:00 PM Telepresence Meeting: City Webstream CALL TO ORDER Pursuant to Government Code Subdivision 54953(e), the meeting was conducted telephonically; pursuant to state law, the City Council made the necessary findings by adopting Resolution No. 1089-21, reaffirmed on August 30, 2022. Chair Wickham called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. via teleconference. ROLL CALL Present: 5 - Chair Kristel Wickham Vice Chair Douglas Kunz Commissioner Jeffery Nabhan Commissioner Kristina Pistone Commissioner Tonya Veitch Absent: 2 - Commissioner Murali Srinivasan Commissioner Justin Wang Commissioners Srinivasan and Wang were absent. Council Liaison – Councilmember Larsson (present) Commissioner Srinivasan’s absence was excused by general consent. Commissioner Wang's absence was unexcused. Chair Wickham, Vice Chair Kunz, all Commissioners, and Councilmember Larsson attended via teleconference. PRESENTATION 22-0933 PRESENTATION - Green Streets Initiative (Commissioner presentation with guest speaker) City of Sunnyvale Page 1 Sustainability Commission Meeting Minutes - Final September 19, 2022 Alison Hicks, Vice Mayor of Mountain View and member of Green Streets for Sustainable Communities, presented on the benefits and best practices of Green Streets. Commissioners asked clarifying questions, and Ms. Hicks provided answers. 22-0935 PRESENTATION - Water Conservation Program Update Mansour Nasser, Division Manager of Water and Sewer, presented on the state of the California drought and Sunnyvale’s water conservation program. Commissioners asked clarifying questions, and Mr. Nasser provided answers. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS None. CONSENT CALENDAR 22-0937 Approve the Sustainability Commission Meeting Minutes of August 15, 2022 Commissioner Pistone requested that staff confirm whether Magdalena Sta. Maria should be identified as Dr. Magdalena Sta. Maria prior to publishing the minutes. Commissioner Pistone moved, and Commissioner Veitch seconded, a motion to approve the consent calendar, as modified by staff. The motion carried by the following vote: Yes: 5 - Chair Wickham Vice Chair Kunz Commissioner Nabhan Commissioner Pistone Commissioner Veitch No: 0 Absent: 2 - Commissioner Srinivasan Commissioner Wang STANDING ITEM: CONSIDERATION OF POTENTIAL STUDY ISSUES No new Study Issues were submitted. NON-AGENDA ITEMS & COMMENTS City of Sunnyvale Page 2 Sustainability Commission Meeting Minutes - Final September 19, 2022 -Commissioner Comments Commissioner Pistone encouraged Commissioners to attend a few National Academy of Sciences webinars related to climate change and resiliency. Chair Wickham encouraged Commissioners to attend various sustainability events happening in the Bay Area. Chair Veitch shared she will be attending the California Climate and Energy Collaborative forum. -Staff Comments Ms. Willett shared that the Climate Corps Sustainability Engagement fellow, Roya Samani, was hired. She announced that the first Drive Electric webinar titled Goodbye Gas, Hello EVs! is scheduled for October 27 from 7 to 8 p.m. She noted Reach Codes re-adoption will be presented to City Council on October 25, 2022.
