CALL TO ORDER
Chair Veitch called the meeting to order at 7:02 p.m. in the Bay Conference Room
(Room 145) at City Hall.

PRESENTATION
24-0895 PRESENTATION - Clean Water Program Updates
Christine Jiang, Senior Environmental Engineer, provided an update on the clean
water program and construction activities at the Water Pollution Control Plant in
Sunnyvale. Commissioners asked clarifying questions, and staff provided answers.

to approve the consent calendar. The motion carried by the following vote:

STANDING ITEM: CONSIDERATION OF POTENTIAL STUDY ISSUES
2 24-0897 Working with Partner Cities in Santa Clara County for addition
of Medium-duty and Heavy-duty truck Hydrogen Fueling
Station (potential Study Issue)
Christina Raby, Interim Environmental Programs Manager, provided an overview of
the Study Issue process and key dates to the Commission. Ms. Raby provided a
brief summary of the potential Study Issue, and Commissioner Parenteau
explained his rationale for submitting it. Ms. Raby summarized the staff response.
Commissioners asked clarifying questions and Commissioner Parenteau, and staff
provided answers.
Chair Veitch opened Public Comment at 8:24 p.m.
Chair Veitch closed Public Comment at 8:25 p.m.
Commissioners offered their comments on the potential Study Issue.
MOTION: Commissioner Parenteau moved, and Commissioner Kunz seconded, a
motion to propose the Study Issue.

3 24-0898 Update Sunnyvale code and regulations for homes/buildings
to encourage/require having bi-directional EV interfaces
(potentially with incentives) to accelerate adoption by 2026.
Distributed power storage to reduce grid demand (potential
Study Issue)
Ms. Raby summarized the potential Study Issue and staff response. Commissioner
Parenteau explained his rationale for submitting it.
Commissioners asked questions about the potential Study Issue and
Commissioner Parenteau, and Ms. Raby provided answers.

MOTION: Commissioner Parenteau moved to propose the Study Issue.
The motion did not have a second.

Commissioner Jansen provided an update on the August 3 Silicon Valley Youth
Climate Action Youth Summit that took place at the Quinlan Community Center in
Cupertino.
Chair Veitch thanked the Commission for supporting her first meeting as Chair of

the Sustainability Commission. Chair Veitch shared a limited time discount for Bay
Area residents to switch to solar and battery storage through a program called Bay
Area SunShares. Discounts are available in the fall each year and this year the
discounts are available from September 1 to November 15, 2024.
