City of Sunnyvale Meeting Minutes Sustainability Commission Monday, October 28, 2024 7:00 PM Online and Bay Conference Room, City Hall, 456 W. Olive Ave., Sunnyvale, CA 94086 Special Meeting CALL TO ORDER Chair Veitch called the special meeting to order at 7:01 p.m. in the Bay Conference Room (Room 145) at City Hall. SALUTE TO THE FLAG Chair Veitch led the salute to the flag. ROLL CALL Present: 7 - Chair Tonya Veitch Vice Chair Jeffery Nabhan Commissioner Cortney Jansen Commissioner Douglas Kunz Commissioner Bobbykin Makwana Commissioner Richard Parenteau Commissioner Kristina Pistone Council Liaison - Councilmember Melingher (present) STUDY SESSION 24-1094 Fire Station 2 - New Construction Preferred Concept Marlon Quiambao, Department of Public Works Senior Engineer, provided an update on the new construction of Fire Station 2 in Sunnyvale. Commissioners asked clarifying questions, and staff provided answers. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS None. CONSENT CALENDAR City of Sunnyvale Page 1 Sustainability Commission Meeting Minutes October 28, 2024 1 24-1095 Approve the Sustainability Commission Meeting Minutes of September 16, 2024 Commissioner Parenteau moved, and Commissioner Kunz seconded, a motion to approve the consent calendar. The motion carried by the following vote: Yes: 7 - Chair Veitch Vice Chair Nabhan Commissioner Jansen Commissioner Kunz Commissioner Makwana Commissioner Parenteau Commissioner Pistone No: 0 PUBLIC HEARINGS/GENERAL BUSINESS 2 24-1096 Review 2025 Draft Annual Work Plan The Commission discussed and added various items to the Draft 2025 Annual Work Plan. The Commission will review the Draft 2025 Annual Work Plan at the November meeting with the intention of finalizing the plan at that meeting. Staff will coordinate with other departments to determine any additional items that need to be added to the Work Plan. STANDING ITEM: CONSIDERATION OF POTENTIAL STUDY ISSUES 3 24-1097 Harnessing the Potential of Community Art to Further Community Sustainability Goals (potential Study Issue) Christina Raby, Interim Environmental Programs Manager, provided a brief summary of the potential Study Issue, and Commissioner Pistone explained her rationale for submitting it. Ms. Raby summarized the staff response. Commissioners asked clarifying questions and Commissioner Pistone, Councilmember Melingher and staff provided answers. Chair Veitch opened Public Comment at 8:15 p.m. Winnie Lam summarized and provided details of the Arts Commission’s similar potential Study Issue topic and noted the discussion points from their meeting. Winnie Lam voiced their support for the potential Study Issue, “Harnessing the Potential of Community Art to Further Community Sustainability Goals.” City of Sunnyvale Page 2 Sustainability Commission Meeting Minutes October 28, 2024 Chair Veitch closed Public Comment at 8:19 p.m. Commissioners offered their comments on the potential Study Issue. MOTION: Commissioner Parenteau moved, and Commissioner Pistone seconded, a motion to propose the Study Issue. The motion carried by the following vote: Yes: 7 - Chair Veitch Vice Chair Nabhan Commissioner Jansen Commissioner Kunz Commissioner Makwana Commissioner Parenteau Commissioner Pistone No: 0 The Commission discussed the proposed Study Issue, 24-1097 Harnessing the Potential of Community Art to Further Community Sustainability Goals for sponsorship. MOTION: Commissioner Parenteau moved, and Commissioner Kunz seconded, a motion to sponsor this Study Issue. The motion carried by the following vote: Yes: 7 - Chair Veitch Vice Chair Nabhan Commissioner Jansen Commissioner Kunz Commissioner Makwana Commissioner Parenteau Commissioner Pistone No: 0 4 24-1098 Working with Partner Cities in Santa Clara County for addition of Medium-duty and Heavy-duty truck Hydrogen Fueling (potential Study Issue) The Commission discussed the proposed Study Issue, 24-1098 Working with Partner Cities in Santa Clara County for addition of Medium-duty and Heavy-duty City of Sunnyvale Page 3 Sustainability Commission Meeting Minutes October 28, 2024 truck Hydrogen Fueling for sponsorship.
