City of Sunnyvale Meeting Minutes Zoning Administrator Hearing Wednesday, December 10, 2014 2:00 PM West Conference Room, City Hall, 456 W. Olive Ave., Sunnyvale, CA 94086 CALL TO ORDER PUBLIC HEARINGS Andrew Miner, Zoning Administrator, on behalf of the Director of Community Development, explained the format that would be observed during the public hearing. 14-1125 File #: 2014-7986 Location: 1348 La Bella Avenue (APN: 323-08-025) Applicant / Owner: Gerald Murdock Proposed Project: VARIANCES to allow a 4.5-foot rear and side setback where the requirements are 10 feet for the rear and 6 feet for the side for an accessory structure 140 square feet in size and 12 feet in height. Reason for Permit: A Variance is required for deviations from setback requirements for accessory structures. Project Planner: Momoko Ishijima, (408) 730-7532, mishijima@sunnyvale.ca.gov Issues: Setbacks and accessory structure size. Recommendation: Approve with conditions Andrew Miner, Zoning Administrator, announced the subject application and opened the public hearing. Momoko Ishijima, Associate Planner, presented the staff report. Mr. Miner asked the applicant if this shed includes a Design Review. Ms. Ishijima noted that the previous Design Review (2014-7908) did not include the shed. Gerald Murdock, resident, noted his long-term goal to have an addition to his home, and that Ms. Ishijima said the existing shed is not part of the Design Review. He stated that this is his reason for applying for a Variance to allow the shed in its current location. Mr. Murdock responded that it may be possible to move, however he would have difficulty. Brenda Kasik, adjacent neighbor to the rear of the subject site, noted her support for the Variance, as she does not have any issues with the location. Mr. Miner closed the public hearing. Mr. Miner approved the Variance based on staff's recommendation in Alternative 1 to approve the Variance with recommended Conditions in Attachment 2. Mr. Miner stated that the decision is final unless appealed to the Planning Commission with payment of the appeal fee within the 15-day appeal period.
