Approval of 9/21/22 Minutes MOTION by Graskey, second by Farmakes to approve. Passed unanimously with edits. 3. 2022 Current Event Sponsorship Budget Balance Update Update given by COS Scherf 4. Discuss Public Event Funds and Process Commission discussed plans for public art funds. Commission decided to host a planning meeting with stakeholders in the public to come up with a list of public art priorities in the community. Once they get together and rank these priorities they will develop messaging to send out to local artists in the community to submit application for creation of public art using public art funds. Meeting to take place on January 4th in the afternoon. COS Scherf to send out invitation and reserve space. Meeting will be catered. 5. SPONSORSHIP APPLICATIONS 5.1 Leadership Superior Douglas County – UW-Superior Center for Continuing Education – (Requesting $800) MOTION by Farmakes, Second by Graskey to fund at full amount. Passed unanimously. 5.2 Toward One Wisconsin Conference - UW-Superior Center for Continuing Education – (Requesting $500) MOTION by Blunt, second by Farmakes to deny application. This program is heavily engaged within the Superior/Douglas County community - we do an overnight stay at Minnesuing Acres, support local businesses regularly through purchasing lunch, heightening awareness, and showcasing all our city has to offer. How does your event incorporate community equity and inclusivity? The Center for Continuing Education is committed to diverse, equitable, and inclusive programs. Leadership participants represent a diverse cross-section of communities in Douglas County and have varying professional backgrounds and interests. The Leadership Superior Douglas County Program highlights a diverse array of our community from local history to growth management to non-profits to education to public safety, naming only a few topics. This program seeks to raise awareness of diversity in our community and to develop leaders who promote equitable and inclusive practices within our community. 2 How does your event incorporate technology? We utilize different technology to deliver content including, streaming videos, laptops, projectors, and microphones. Much of our programming takes place within the community at various locations, businesses, and organizations. How does your event incorporate sustainability? We incorporate sustainability through purchasing all participants water bottles to reduce our plastic usage. A component of Leadership Superior Douglas County is a group project that focuses on improving our area and sustainability has been a topic of past projects. We also spend a full program day at the Lake Superior National Estuarine Research Reserve highlighting our land and water and the many sustainable practices organizations throughout Superior and Douglas County are implementing. Our program enhances the quality of life of our community by heightening community awareness, encouraging community engagement, and developing leaders that will positively impact Superior and Douglas County in the future. The Leadership Program was specifically developed to help make Superior/Douglas County a better place in which to live,work, and play. The program facilitates and supports the development of community-based projects that help to give back and further invest in our community. 2. The program is ongoing, taking place each year from August through June. One of the primary goals of the Festival Committee is to support events with operational/logistical costs. Ongoing support provides a significant benefit to not only the participants’ professional leadership development, and we often witness our participants go on to make a positive difference in our local community. Partners for the event are featured on the T1W and UWS website and will be in any printed materials for the event. How does your event incorporate community equity and inclusivity? The Toward One Wisconsin Conference fosters and sustains a culture that understands diversity, equity and inclusion are essential to the region's continued excellence. T1W brings together attendees from diverse backgrounds to have broad ranging conversations around the work of DEI and how to move from talk to action. 2 How does your event incorporate technology? We will offer remote participants the opportunity to stream the keynote speakers. Throughout the Conference, we will utilize different types of technology including microphones, laptops, and projectors. How does your event incorporate sustainability? The conference will be held at UW-Superior at the Yellowjacket Union that has greater energy efficiency with more efficient use of space and be easier to navigate. Its environmentally friendly “green roof” is covered with plants that absorb heat and rainwater, with excess rainwater directed into a special garden to avoid contributing to storm runoff. What does your event do to enhance the quality of life in our community? This event is a platform for our community to learn more about DEI and to take action in implementing or further developing equitable and inclusive practices. We also expect participants to learn about our community's history at the pre-conference bus trip and learn directly from lived experiences of our community members. 2. There is the potential for Superior to host this conference again. The opportunity would be a couple of years from now. One of the primary goals of the Festival Committee is to support events with operational/logistical costs. What operational and/or logistical costs would this sponsorship be used for, if any? (e.g. electricity, fees/permits, barricades, auxiliary police, etc.) The operating and logistical expenses are not directly tied to the City of Superior. Rather, they are through businesses for example a local bus company and UW-Superior space rental fees. What other costs would this sponsorship be used for, if any? This financial support would be used to cover the cost of breakout speaker registration fees. We also invite the City of Superior to provide us promotional materials to share with participants in conjunction with funding. 3 Has this event received a sponsorship from the City of Superior in previous years?
