Jack Sweeney called the meeting to order at 4:30 pm with a quorum present. Attendance was done by
sign in and virtual meeting.
1. Approval of the March 11, 2021 Finance Committee Meeting minutes.
Motion was made by Tylor Elm, seconded by Keith Kern and carried to approve the March 11,
2021 Finance Committee Meeting minutes.
2. Mr. Patel, CEO of Shivam Enterprises, and owner of Super 8 Motel is requesting a waiver of
Quarter 4, 2020 hotel-motel room tax late filing fee and penalty.
Finance Director Puetz gave a brief explanation as to Mr. Patel’s request to waive the late filing
fee and penalty for the 4th quarter, 2020 hotel-motel tax. A discussion ensued. It was pointed out
that Mr. Patel did receive relief from the COVID-19 resolution enacted in 2020.
Motion was made by Tylor Elm, seconded by Keith Kern and carried to deny Mr. Patel’s request
to waive the Quarter 4, 2020 hotel-motel room tax late filing fee and penalty.
3. SYO 2020 Financials and 2020 tax return – Receive and file.
Motion was made Keith Kern, seconded by Tylor Elm and carried to Receive and file the SYO
2020 Financials and 2020 tax return.
4. Golf course Financials – Receive and file.
Motion was made by Tylor Elm, seconded by Keith Kern and approved to receive and file the
Golf course Financials.
5. Review March, 2021 check register – Receive and file.
Motion was made by Tylor Elm, seconded by Keith Kern and approved to receive and file the
March, 2021 check register.
6. Review General Fund Financial Statements – 2020 & 2021 Expenditure vs. Budget Analysis –
Receive and file.
Motion was made by Tylor Elm, seconded by Keith Kern and carried to receive and file the
General Fund Financial Statements – 2020 & 2021 Expenditure vs. Budget Analysis.
7. General Financial Overview.
Update on top 3 financial concerns or updates.
a. The City of Superior is expected to receive an estimated 17.7 million from ARPA in
2021.
b. The audit should be completed shortly.
c. Assistant Finance Director Kamunen will again be working on the citywide fee
schedule.
8. Other financial matters.
Sweeney requested that Sue Heskin, Library Director, be contacted by Finance as he had some
questions regarding Northern Water Library Service and asked if she could attend the next
scheduled Finance Committee meeting or answer some questions he has.
With Assessor Brad Theien retiring, Sweeney requested the new Assessor, Terry Johnson, speak
to the Finance Committee at the next meeting, in regard to the PILOT program.
Having no other business, the Finance Committee Meeting adjourned at 5:00 p.m.
