GOLF COURSE COMMITTEE PROCEEDINGS July 12, 2021 Noon Room 204 and Remotely via ZOOM Members Present: Barb Hoag, Troy Clark, Jack Sweeney, Lindsey Graskey, Bob Kolbe Advisory Members and Others Present: Linda Cadotte, Ashley Puetz, Nick Raverty, Tom Beaudry, Vince Dodge, Tom Andersen, Steve Loomis, Paul Winterscheidt, Mark Carlos Members Excused: Keith Kern Golf course meeting called to order at 12:00 p.m. 1. Seeking approval of the June 14, 2021 Golf Course Committee meeting minutes MOTION by Graskey, seconded by Clark and carried, to approve the June 14, 2021 meeting minutes. 2. Explanation of the debit cards & pass cards Beaudry stated that with the current card vendor and card reader when using debit cards people are not able to tip. Barb asked if the course can switch card vendors to fix this issue. Tom said the course is locked in for the season but might be able to switch next year. Sweeney asked if this is affecting tips, Beaudry stated it might affect it but that people can always tip with cash. Let the record reflect Mark Carlos joined the meeting at 12:03pm 3. Hiring wage – is the rate established by Kemper or the City. Beaudry noted wage levels are addressed during budgeting time. He stated they have had to make changes this year. Loomis stated they make updates to wages based on the market. Loomis also stated that Kemper is working within the budget to offer what is necessary to hire people and that if those wages do not fit within the budget constraints that they will bring the budget back to the City. Loomis noted Kemper is struggling with this at all properties and that this is not only an industry wide problem but a problem in general across the country. 4. Standing agenda items: a. Profit/Loss – Budget/Actual Statement a. Beaudry stated May was another great month. Payroll had a slight uptick which was additional season staff coming on. Operating expenses reflect the uptick in activity at the course as well. May was 29% ahead of NOI for the month. Golf Course Committee Meeting 1 July 12, 2021  b. General Manager/Golf Pro – report a. Beaudry mentioned supply chain issues are a problem everywhere and that they are struggling to get rental carts for tournaments. This is an issue across the industry at the moment. b. Staff has been helpful in filling the gaps of the Food and Beverage Manager who quit June 10. They have hired a new food and beverage manager starting next week. c. Kemper finished training all staff on levels 1-4 of true service. They now have new staff that will also do the training. d. True review scores for the month of May were down, Tom is going to look into how to get this increased. Loomis noted the course had 344 surveys completed for the month of May which is great considering some courses have a goal of 300 surveys for the whole year. c. Superintendent – Grounds/Maintenance report a. Dodge stated he currently has 19 staff but does not have leads for additional staff and is concerned this might be an issue in the future. b. Clark said he would like to see improvements on bunkers and said he know this is hard to fix. Dodge said it’s a work in progress as it’s hard to do them all at once and that some have drainage issues that need to be fixed before sand can be added. c. Hoag heard the course is illuminating gold and black tees. Kemper thinks there are too many tees on the course right now and they would like to address this before they order new tee signs. d. Hoag asked about blocking off a few areas of the course so that carts will not pass through. Dodge will look at addressing this. e. Bob said the course is running really well and while there is always room for improvement, he is pleased with the way things are currently running. f. Dodge stated there has been 243 man hours in irrigation repairs this year so far. d. General Manager top three concerns. e. Nemadji Women’s and Men’s Club – concerns/updates a. Clark did not have any updates to share. b. Hoag said the Women’s Club has now reached 110 members which they haven’t hit since 2018. c. The women’s Club is hosting a scramble on July 27th with a fundraiser for the food shelf. 5. Future agenda items a. Hoag mentioned the committee will address memorial plaques at the August meeting. Golf Course Committee Meeting 2 July 12, 2021  b. Cadotte asked about meeting at the Nemadji golf course in the future. The Committee agreed to have the next meeting at Nemadji golf course. c. Clark asked to address winter activities at the August meeting. d. Carlos has concerns he will provide to Raverty. 6.
