Public Safety Committee Meeting Minutes Government Center, Room 204 Thursday, December 15, 2022 6:00 p.m. Members Present: Councilor Johnson, Councilor Ledin, Councilor Elm* Others Present: Battalion Chief Cam Vollbrecht , Lieutenant Michelle Pope, Director Linda Cadotte*, Maria Lockwood*, Tina Anrig, Mick McKenzie, Jen Stank *attended virtually Councilor Ledin called the meeting to order at 6:16 P.M. Approval of minutes: November 17, 2022 Motion by Councilor Johnson, seconded by Councilor Ledin and carried to approve the Public Safety meeting minutes from November 17, 2022. 1. Presentation by Jen Stank – Superior Police Department Jen Stank, CRS of the Superior Police Department, gave a presentation regarding her position in the Police Department. No action 2. Police and Fire Department Updates Lieutenant Pope, Superior Police Department, states there has been an increase in car accidents these last few weeks due to the weather conditions. The Police Department has a new Officer, Katie Foerst. She graduated from recruit school today and will start with the department Friday, November 18th, 2022. Chief Gordon of the Fire Department will be retiring December 30, 2022. Cam Vollbrecht has been appointed as the next Fire Chief. There have been additional promotions within the Fire Department; Steve Miner has been selected for Battalion Chief starting January 6, 2023; Brandon Cardenas has been selected for Captain starting January 2023; and Jon Webber has been selected for MPO/Driver starting in January 2023. The Fire Department is currently working on the Toys for Tots program for this year. The department will be hiring one Firefighter in the near future; first interviews will be in early January 2023. No action 3. Language Edits for Leash Ordinance There was some discussion about possibly creating more space for animal owners to allow their pets to be off leash. Director Cadotte will do some research to recommend other areas in the community to allow pets to be off leash. Will hold off on bringing this to Council until language edits are received from City Attorney, Frog Prell. Motion by Councilor Johnson, seconded by Councilor Ledin, to table this item until the next Public Safety meeting. 4. Add No Overnight Parking or RV Parking in Boat Launch Parking Lots Director Linda Cadotte will re-write an ordinance and present it at the next meeting for Public Safety. Motion by Councilor Ledin, seconded by Councilor Johnson to table this item until the next Public Safety meeting. 5. Remove Calendar Parking (Winter Street from Cypress Avenue to Hughitt Avenue) Public Works Director Todd Janigo recommends extending this from Cypress Avenue to Hammond Avenue. Motion by Councilor Johnson, seconded by Nick Ledin, and carried to remove calendar parking (Winter Street from Cypress Avenue to Hammond Avenue) 6. Add No Parking Odd Side (Winter Street from Cypress Avenue to Hughitt Avenue) Public Works Director Todd Janigo recommends extending this from Cypress Avenue to Hammond Avenue. Motion by Councilor Johnson, seconded by Councilor Elm, and carried to add No Parking Odd Side (Winter Street from Cypress Avenue to Hammond Avenue) Meeting adjourned at 7:28 P.M.
