Takoma Park Recreation and Community Engagement Committee Minutes 2/16/23 Attendance: Ellen Marcus, Mackenzie Brown, Michael Asrat, John Webster (TP Rec), Jon Worley Approval of January minutes John Webster gave Rec Staff update: - Summer Camp registration is open; scholarships remain available - Spring and Summer class registration opens soon - Spring/Summer guide will arrive in city newsletter - New roof approved for Rec Center - Two proposals received for new Rec Center; still under review - Three Seniors multimedia education workshops are scheduled - Showing of “They Call Jim Mr. Lee” on February 26 in city auditorium - Egg Hunt will be April 8. Full traditional egg hunt is planned - Winter Basketball League is going well - Futsal going well - Adult co-ed softball registration has opened - T-Ball registration opens next month - Registration for Spring Break teen camp is open - Summer Youth Employment Interest meeting to be held Feb. 24 - Still looking for Esports director - Library demo should start soon Discussion of potential “International Day” to replace Celebrate Takoma. Jon will contact Old Town Takoma and Long Branch business associations to inquire as to potential partnerships. Tabled discussion until next meeting. Brief discussion of publicizing temporary library location. Agreed to make it a continuing agenda item. Tabled discussion of future committee roles until March meeting.
