Recrea�on and Community Engagement Commitee Minutes from 4/20/23 @ 7pm Atendance: Mackenzie Brown, Pat Rumbaugh, Priscilla Labovitz, John Webster, Jay Keller, Howard Kohn, Ellen Marcus - Minutes from 3/16/23 approved - Recreation Center Updates Via John Webster - Question as to why Rec dept gave Public Works 10k - Question as to opening parts of program for youth summer employment – if there are enough jobs – answer is yes. - Fitness Expo was a wonderful success! - Outreach for recreation committee members - newsletter possibilities – ask every council member to put into their weekly reports for recruiting – clarify process and timeline – broaden the timeline (open acceptance to more times than just the one time in June). - Send notes to potential members that we are looking forward to participation from new members - Diversity Celebration Fest (Celebrate Takoma) – to be removed from agenda due to not enough helpers to take the sizable organization/planning task - Clarify confusion around membership to this committee (maybe Jessie can clarify limits – is it 9 or 15?) - Those who are in the position to get back on the committee need to re-apply now and Jay sent us the link to the committee. - Library promotion – Children’s Day, bilingual (Spanish) - Library needs a new sign (Friends of the Library) Priscilla to reach out about that - Family Fun Festival report – Great day, the Mayor showed up – fun day for all – invited to part of national night out – 6 spontaneous events coming to a street near you soon - - June adult playday on the 17th - John will look into Teacher appreciation & Priscilla will promote that week in her classes - Priscilla – reporting on questions of the New Rec Center – Will Smith taking an interest in it - Next Meeting: 5/18/23 - Adjourned
