Discussion
- The meeting was called to order at 7:07pm.
- Committee members launched an introductory discussion on ideas for program goals for the
coming fiscal year. This discussion was held in light of ongoing city council budget discussions
that could result in notable programmatic and staff reductions.
- The ideas discussed included:
o Environmental films series;
o Food waste education campaign with expanded composting pick-up
o New public meeting areas (similar to the Streetery)
o Education/awareness on buildings that could convert to electrification and solar energy
o Expanded native plantings and accompanying signage
- In light of budget uncertainty and concern that promoting new city programs wasn’t feasible it
was noted that there was value in discussing goals since the city has an interest in its
sustainability rating.
- The Committee decided that it would continue its discussion of program goals at its next
meeting when the budget would be passed and Daryl would review the relevant budget
categories with members.
- Chiara indicated that she would look for sustainability trainings for the Committee to pursue.
- The Committee voted to postpone its next meeting until June 26 (or July 10) when a quorum
could be attained.
- Committee members were asked to review and adopt the proposed minutes of the April 2023
meeting.
- The meeting adjourned at 7:50pm.
