Sustainable Maryland Committee Meeting Minutes May 6, 2024 Attendance Chiara Atoyebi Dorothy Estrada Melissa Klein Janet Owens Jeremy Schwartz Emanuel Wagner Sophia Yarrow The meeting was called to order at 7:05 pm. The Committee adopted the April 1, 2024 minutes. Discussion (1) The Committee discussed a re-cap of the Earth Day events that were organized by Dorothy in collaboration with Takoma Park government staff and outside organizations in April: The Committee discussed the (i) DC Smart Homes, DC Armory, April 6, 2024; (ii) TPSS COOP Earth Day, April 14, 2024 and (iii) Earth Day, April 20,2024. a. DC Smart Homes – approximately 100 people stopped by the Takoma Park table. i. It would be helpful to have hand-outs for owners vs renters ii. House tour of electrified homes iii. Better signage was needed b. TPSS COOP Earth Day – approximately 20 vendors attended c. April 20 Earth Day – approximately 500-600 people attended i. EVs didn’t get a lot of attention: perhaps because of how they were positioned ii. Deisel generators are noisy iii. Green caterers should be invited in future events iv. Organizations could pay for tents (2) The Committee discussed the draft narrative for the 2024 submission to Sustainable Maryland. The discussion targeted category submissions for Energy, Greenhouse Gas, and Health and Wellness. The Committee adjourned at 8:40pm.
