Sustainable Maryland Committee Meeting Minutes June 3, 2024 Attendance Chiara Atoyebi Dorothy Estrada Melissa Klein Janet Owens Jeremy Schwartz Emanuel Wagner The meeting was called to order at 7:05 pm. The Committee adopted the May 6, 2024 minutes. Discussion (1) The Committee discussed a re-cap of the Power in the Park event, May 30, 2024, that was organized by the office of Delegate Lorig Charkoudian. Power in the Park was held at the New Hampshire Estates Neighborhood Park and targeted energy issues. Approximately 70 participants stopped by the Takoma Park Sustainability table. (2) Upcoming Events a. June 18, 2024, 7pm, Community Center Auditorium, 7500 Maple Avenue, Pollinator event: Takoma Park and The Pollinator Group of the Climate Action Coffee are sponsoring “Nurturing Native Bees in the Takoma Park Area with Sam Droege”. Sam Droege is Director of the Bee Lab with the Eastern Ecological Science Center in Laurel, MD. The talk coincides with national pollinator week. b. June 19, 2024, 12pm-6pm, Lee Jordan field (located behind Takoma Park Middle School), Juneteenth Event. The event will target the interrelationship of climate justice and social justice issues. Takoma Park Sustainability will have a table at the event. (3) Takoma Park City Council Work Session, June 12, 2024. The work session will address the TP Sustainable Maryland proposals on (i) the installation of EV chargers at multi-family residences and (ii) the reduction of food waste in regular trash collection through promotion of TP household education and increase of compost collection pick-up services.  (4) The Committee discussed the draft narrative for the 2024 submission to Sustainable Maryland. The discussion targeted category submissions for Energy, Greenhouse Gas, and Health and Wellness. The Committee adjourned at 8:40pm.
