MINUTES OF THE CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION MEETING January 26, 2015 - 3:30 P.M. Members Present: Chairman Jan Naso Commissioner Tom Kot Commissioner Christine Higham Non-Members Mayor Dave Kline Present: Director of Law Megan Raber Acting Police Chief Ron Williams ______________________________________________________________________________ The January 26, 2015 Civil Service Commission meeting was called to order. Minutes of the January 5, 2015 meeting were approved as published. Chairman Naso introduced the Sidebar Agreement with the Police Department Patrol Officers and Sergeants so that they can work 12-hour shifts instead of 8-hour shifts and the newly negotiated contract between the City of Tallmadge and the Part-Time Firefighters. An email from Chief Operating Officer Steve Wood for the Tallmadge City Schools specified that he had hired candidate Michelle King from the Custodian Eligibility List. Mr. Wood had requested to open the Cook/Food Service Eligibility List. A motion was made and passed that the Cook/Food Service Eligibility List be reopened. Since they will be hiring for one position, an updated list with the top ten names along with copies of their applications will be forwarded to Mr. Wood . The original list that was submitted to Mr. Wood contained the top 15 names because they were filling two positions back in August of 2014. The City Administration requested not too long ago to reopen the General Laborer Eligibility List which the Commission did. The City therefore hired John Myers to begin a full-time position effective January 5, 2015. Fifty-three applications have been received so far against the entry-level Patrol Officer Exam scheduled for February 24, 2015. The posting for this exam will appear in the Akron Beacon Journal and the Tallmadge Express on February 1 and February 8, 2015. The current procedure for hiring a Patrol Officer from the written test up to the actual hiring was explained by Chairman Naso and was included in the each Commissioner’s packet. Lt. Williams was in agreement with the procedure. His comments were welcome and appreciated. A brief discussion was held concerning the physical agility test.
