MINUTES OF THE CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION MEETING October 19, 2015 - 3:30 P.M. Members Present: Chairman Jan Naso Commissioner Tom Kot Commissioner Christine Higham Non-Members Mayor Dave Kline Present: ______________________________________________________________________________ The October 19, 2015 Civil Service Commission meeting was called to order. Minutes of the October 12, 2015 meeting were approved as published. Chairman Naso announced that the Head Custodian Exam for the Schools will be held on November 4, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at the McCombs Education Center. One application has been submitted. Mr. Wood is expecting four or five to sit for the exam. The Cook/Food Service Worker Exam was advertised yesterday, October 18 and will be in next Sunday’s paper, October 25 and the following Sunday, November 1. This exam is scheduled for November 11, 2015 at the Community Center; two applications have been received to date. Mayor Kline stated that the Police Department is trying to finalize a couple of Police Officer candidates. They have the authority to hire them and the Mayor is trying to move them along. Chairman Naso recapped a notation that was in the last meeting concerning the letters from two Police Officer candidates asking that they be removed from the certified list. He mentioned that he had spoken with the Law Director concerning this situation. The Commission cannot add anymore names unless the list falls below ten. Unless a fourth person is hired, Mr. Naso doesn’t see adding anymore names to the list that’s already been given to Chief Williams. Mayor Kline stated that no one has been hired from the Police Sergeant’s Eligibility List that contained five names. Chairman Naso announced that the Police Captain’s Exam is scheduled for November 10, 2015. No applications have been received. The posting for the Police Captain’s Exam will be approved retroactively. Page 2 October 19, 2015 Mayor Kline stated that the person that was being considered for re-hire for the Records Clerk position did not work out; therefore, he requested a test be given for that position at the start of the new year. Chairman Naso reiterated that an employee can be reinstated within 12 months of when they left. With this particular situation, the last day of employment was October 11, 2014. We discussed this on October 12, 2015. Mr. Naso stated that Chief Williams still has the option of making a temporary appointment.
