TALLMADGE CITY COUNCIL MINUTES COUNCIL OF THE WHOLE COMMITTEE MEETING MONDAY, JULY 8, 2013 – 7:00 P.M. IN COUNCIL CHAMBERS ************** Committee of the Whole Robert D. Maguire – Pres. of Council CALL TO ORDER: Pres. of Council Maguire called the Council Committee meeting of 7-8-13 to order at 7:00 p.m. ROLL CALL: Mr. Sarver, Mrs. Kilway, Mrs. Ray, Mr. Sisak, Mr. Donovan, Mr. Stalnaker, Mr. Maguire, – present. Also present were Mayor Kline, Dir. of Finance Shanafelt, Dir. of Law Raber, Dir. of Public Service Esler and Economic Developer Loughry. COMMUNITY INPUT: Pres. of Council: Tonight we are meeting for our Council Committee meeting. Is there anyone here to address Council on any matter? No one responded. PUBLIC HEARINGS: None. ANNOUNCEMENTS: Pres. of Council: Just a reminder that after Thursday’s meeting; we will be on summer recess and we th will resume on August 19 . Mrs. Ray: I would also like to remind City Council and the Administration that it is that time of year for the Rotary/Good Neighbors Food Drive. We will close down the Circle and man the spokes. This year’s th event is scheduled for Saturday, July 27 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Everyone is more than welcome to come out and help collect coins and cash in cans for our friends at Good Neighbors. This year we have the Chamber, Boy Scouts, Leaders in Action, Rotary, Lions Club and it seems like I am missing somebody and I apologize, who are going to help us and so it is always a good time. Last year we raised about $8,800. Every year we shoot for $10,000 and one of these years we are going to get to $10,000. So, we have already started receiving checks from the community at-large and so please, my fellow th Council people and Administration; come out and join us on Saturday, the 27 . Thank you. Mr. Stalnaker: What time? Mrs. Ray: Again, it is 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and we will have some coffee and donuts and then we will go out and man the Circle. Pres. of Council: Also for my colleagues; if we can stay over for just a minute or two after Council to discuss our potential float for the Circle Fest. Mayor: If I may, just to thank Mrs. Ray for helping to organize that through the Rotary, but I want to let Council know that I get a lot of requests monthly to do different events on the Circle and I have turned down quite a few vendors wanting to do that and for good cause to do it. I know the Fire Department does the “boot” and they are out there with their safety gear and they are very protected. The last time we did it with the Rotary; I made sure that we all had safety vests. I want to work with you if we have Boy Scouts or kids out on the roadway I get concerned and maybe we will put them off in the parking lots off to the side or with signs directing people into a parking lot or so, but I do know that it is for a great cause for Good Neighbors and what it goes to . . . Relay for Life was a good thing and so is selling the poppy flowers, which I turned down and they actually went into a parking lot at the Firehouse and put a sign up and so just to let you know that I do turn people down and I know . . . we have done this; this will be our third year or fourth year . . . fifth year; time flies when we are having fun!
