Enos MAYOR SHAUNNA O'CONNELL BUDGET DIRECTOR March 27, 2025 Council President Scott Martin Members of the Taunton Municipal Council 15 Summer Street Taunton, MA 02780 Dear Council President Martin and Members of the Municipal Council, As we begin to make plans to celebrate Earth Day in April, I would like to share some update1) on the work our team is doing to help keep Taunton clean: First, I wanted to share our collective efforts in cleaning up the area near 104-106 Oak Street. Last month, our DPW crew, along with inmates from Boston Pre-Release Program cleaned out a widespread abandoned homeless encampment that contained copious amounts of trash and broken furniture. More recently, this past week, we worked with the owners of 106 Oak Street to remove dumped materials and we have taken preventative measures to ensure the site remains clean. As you may recall, over the past several months, we have secured grants for the abatement, demolition and sale of the Bacon Felt property. We are also working with the Diocese to clean up the area near St. Mary's Church. Our Trash Compliance Division and Board of Health inspectors regularly survey different areas throughout the City to ensure trash is being picked up and applicable regulations are being followed. At the request of Council President Martin, our DPW team and the Boston Pre-Release Program have secured crews to begin a deep clean of the Myles Standish Industrial Park beginning April 3rd and 4th. These efforts, along with our neighborhood revitalization initiatives and our wonderful volunteers are making significant strides towards keeping Taunton clean and green! Sincerely, Mayor Shaunna O'Connell City of Taunton Ligia M. Madeira, Esq. CHIEF OF STAFF OFFICE OF THE MAYOR City Hall Patrick D.
