Taunton Public Library Minutes for the April 17, 2024 Meeting Present: Ted Gay, William Hanna, Jason Cross, Audrey Reese Staff: Linda Coelho, Director Friends of the Taunton Public Library President: Brian Belanger Ms. Reese called the meeting to order at 1:05 p.m. The March 2024 minutes were presented. Mr. Gay made a motion to accept. Dr. Hanna seconded the motion and the Board approved. The March 2024 financial report was reviewed. Mr. Gay made a motion to accept. Dr. Hanna seconded the motion and the Board approved. The March 2023 circulation report was reviewed. Mr. Gay made a motion to accept. Dr. Hanna seconded the motion and the Board approved. New Business:  Panic buttons have been installed at the main circulation desk in the lobby, reference department service area, and the youth services circulation desk. In the case of an emergency where a phone is not an option these buttons will alert the alarm company who will call the police to request assistance at this location.  Taunton’s second annual Safety Week is May 6-12, 2024. This year mental health will be addressed. Library staff will be attending a 2 hour mental health training followed by a 1 hour team building exercise.  The second installment of our FY24 state aid in the amount of $80,200.82 is scheduled to be deposited soon. The total state aid for FY24 was $158,875.63. Old Business:  Repointing of the front limestone has recommenced, and will be done soon and out of our way before summer programming is scheduled to start. The carpet job bidding period has ended. More information and total cost will be available for the next meeting to be voted on. The Youth Services circulation desk is scheduled to arrive this week. A dedication plaque hasn’t been purchased yet since the desk isn’t ready yet. We will be coordinating with the building department when we have all the pieces ready for them. Friends’ Report: The Friends’ hosted “The Unlikely Strummers” on April 11th for the Friends’ of the Taunton Public Library’s spring concert. There were 35 people in attendance. The Friends’ are in the process of purchasing 2 passes for the Fall River Children’s Museum. Each pass will allow 4 people at half price admission.
