Taunton Youth Commission Silver City Conference Room 15 Summer St., Taunton MA 02780 December 7th, 2023 Meeting Minutes Meeting called to order 6:03 PM PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE INVOCATION ROLL CALL ● PRESENT ○ Student: Michaela Callahan, Condoleeza Dwuye, Genoveva-Martins Furtado, Kayla Glynn, Emelia Leavitt, Eric Lobo, Dayna Mbugua, Mikayla Mbugua, Khonnor Pasquale, Luke Piscitelli, Lilee Rodrigues, Laylani Silva, Isaiah Windle ■ *Note: Interim-Chair Isaiah Windle announced names of the following members who were participating remotely via Zoom Call before the pledge of allegiance: Dayna Mbugua, Mikayla Mbugua, and Genoveva-Martins Furtado ○ Adult: Stephanie Hoye,Jillian Joyce, Jayson LaPlante, Melissa Oliveira ● ABSENT ○ Student: Lyla Mcentire ○ Adult: Shavon Tolson APPROVAL OF MEETING MINUTES 11/2/23 Laylani/Condoleeza MSC COMMUNICATIONS FROM THE CHAIR-NONE REPORTS OF OFFICERS-NONE APPOINTMENTS-NONE AGENDA COMMUNICATIONS- NONE UNFINISHED BUSINESS NEW BUSINESS ● Elections Held- ○ Officer Positions- ■ Chair- Dayna Mbugua ● Lilee/Michaela MSC ■ Vice-Chair - Isaiah Windle ● Lilee/Luke MSC ■ Secretary- Lilee Rodrigues ● Laylani/Kayla MSC ■ Treasurer- Michaela Callahan ● Lilee/Condoleeza MSC ○ Sub-Committees (Appointments made by Chair Dayna Mbugua) ■ Public Relations- ● Chair: Laylani Silva ○ Mentor: Jillian Joyce ○ Members: Michaela Callahan and Isaiah Windle ■ Special Projects- ● Co-Chairs: Mikayla Mbugua/Khonnor Pasquale ○ Mentor: Jayson LaPlante ○ Members: Emelia Leavitt, Luke Piscitelli, and Lilee Rodrigues, Laylani Silva ■ Student Relations- ● Co-Chairs: Condoleeza Dwuye/Luke Piscitelli ○ Mentor: Melissa Oliveira ○ Members: Kayla Glynn, Emelia Leavitt, Eric Lobo, Genoveva Martins-Furtado  ■ College Readiness Committee ● Chair: Dayna Mbugua ○ Mentor: Stephanie Hoye ○ Members: Michaela Callahan,Condoleeza Dwuye, Genoveva Martins-Furtado, Lilee Rodrigues ● The Center on Main- ○ Jayson LaPlante/Michaela C./Luke Piscitelli shared experience with the space ■ LaPlante- Initially concerned with their religious component (TYC is non-denominational) ● Assured by owner upfront about issue- Comparable to boys/girls club; center does have a religious component on Sundays, but besides it is just a space ■ Space is going to have a cafe (Food/drink) ○ At next regular meeting (Thursday, December 14th, 2023), we will start our meeting as planned (Pledge, Invocation, Roll call,etc.) and then visit the space ■ Confirmed 12/8/2023 via email ● All members have received folders/shirts ● Discussed Operation Christmas briefly ○ Lilee to make form for those wanting to participate to share time availability ■ Jayson LaPlante/Stephanie Hoye as mentors/supervisors ○ Members are to wear their TYC shirts ● New Ideas/What TYC wants to do next: ○ Update on youth surrvey put together by Luke, Kayla, and Emelia ■ General Gaps; If there was a Youth Center, what would youth like to see ○ Potentially collaborate with Project 351 ■ Find out who the points of contact are at B-P and THS ● Jayson LaPlante to find out who the B-P Adult is  ○ Condoleeza: Key Club- Fundraiser to build preschools in Zambia ■ Asked members to brainstorm ideas of what the fundraiser could entail in the selling aspect ● Hats, earring kits ● New WhatsApp Group Chat ○ Additionally discussed apps such as discord/slacks; in search of agreeable app with channels for sub-committees ● Holiday Meeting 12/14/2023 ○ Ornament Swap ○ Members are not mandated, but encouraged to bring in whatever they are willing to (treats, etc.) ● Mentors to discuss plan for new treasurer mentor ○ Only officer role with mandated mentor ● New Posts ○ Meet the Officer/Sub-Committees ■ Officers are to send a picture of their choosing to Public Relations head Laylani Silva to be posted ● Meet the officers- B-P DECA post used as an example ○ Name, Grade, Short description paragraph/Quote of officer’s goal for the year Meeting Adjournment at 7:06PM Laylani/Kayla MSC Next Meeting: Thursday, December 14,2023; Taunton City Hall at 6pm Respectfully Submitted, Lilee Rodrigues, TYC Secretary Melissa Oliveira TYC Secretary Mentor
