Taunton Youth Commission City Council Chambers 15 Summer St., Taunton, MA 02780 March 14, 2024 Meeting Minutes Meeting Called to Order at 6:01 PM PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE INVOCATION ROLL CALL ● Present: ○ Students: Condoleeza Dwuye, Genoveva Martins-Furtado, Emelia Leavitt, Lyla Mcentire, Dayna Mbugua, Mikayla Mbugua, Luke Piscitell, Lilee Rodrigues, Laylani Silva, Isaiah Windle ○ Adults: Stephanie Hoye, Jillian Joyce, Jayson LaPlante, Melissa Oliveria ● Absent: ○ Students:Michaela Callahan, Kayla Glynn, Eric Lobo, Khonnor Pasquale ○ Adults: Shavon Tolson APPROVAL OF MEETING MINUTES 02/29/2024 Isaiah/Laylani MSC REPORTS OF OFFICERS- NONE COMMITTEE REPORTS ● General Progress Updates ○ Youth Survey ■ 41 Responses ● Time set indefinitely- Blocked at First ● Hoye to follow up with points of contact at THS (still waiting on approval) ○ College Tours ■ In state all set ● Tours set for 9 AM, 11 AM, and 2:30 PM ● May 3rd moved to April 27th ○ URI doing weekdays ○ Providence College Tues/Thurs  ● 15-20 Students ● To review Application form (April 1st→ Start, Mid April → assess) ○ Youth Workshops ■ Mrs. Hoye to look further into a building request form submission for potential dates- May 14/15 ■ 50-70 Students (Target is 50) ● Ideas: ○ Student-Peer Mentoring ■ TYC Members in each workshop to assist/share experiences, etc. ● Topics: Mock Interview, Supplemental Essay, Professional Clothing Drives, Tips on How to Dress, Asking Questions in Interviews UNFINISHED BUSINESS ● BCC Youth Empowerment Post-Discussion ○ Participating Students shared feedback ■ Well done→ Skits were funny, Engaging vs. being talked at (Do not want an “in school”/”lecture” vibe), free to walk around ■ Tayna Lobo was very interactive ■ More communication between TYC Members ● Unable to go to meetings for outside circumstances ○ Suggested ways to improve: email, WhatsApp gc, etc. ● Project 351 ○ Officers to confer on a date to meet ■ Potential Open Meeting in April NEW BUSINESS ● May 2nd: B-P Clean Up Meeting Adjourned at 6:57 PM Condoleeza/Isaiah MSC Next Meeting April 11, 2024 at 6pm Respectfully Submitted, Lilee Rodrigues, TYC Secretary Melissa Oliveira, TYC Secretary Mentor
