TENAFLY PUBLIC LIBRARY MINUTES OF THE BOARD MEETING December 9, 2019 The Board of Trustees of the Tenafly Public Library met on December 9, 2019 at the Library for its regular Board meeting. Board Members Present: President Kathleen Cook, Vice President Patrick Rouse, Secretary/Treasurer Martin Gilbert, Teresa Austin, Soon Juhng and Elizabeth Warms. Absent: Mabel Allen, David DiGregorio and Shama Haider Staff present: Library Director Julie Marallo The meeting was called to order at 11:02 a.m. Julie Marallo reported that notices of the meeting had been posted and sent to the media. Minutes Board members approved the Minutes of the regular Board meeting of November 18, 2019. Moved by: Kathleen Cook. Seconded by: Teresa Austin. Unanimously approved. Treasurer’s Report Martin Gilbert reviewed with the Board the Library’s financial statements of November 2019. He noted that he had examined and approved the statements and reported that they were current and accurate. A motion was made to approve the financial reports. Moved by: Teresa Austin. Seconded by: Kathleen Cook. Unanimously approved. Correspondence None Director’s Report Julie Marallo advised the Board of the ongoing problems with the Exterior Insulation Finishing System (EIFS) surrounding the back of the building. The decision was made to hire an EIFS inspector to determine the extent of the damage and necessary repairs. President’s Report Kathleen Cook praised the work of Liz Warms and the Tenafly Library Friends on the Sunday Concert Series. Ms. Cook pointed out that even the December 1 concert, which took place during an ice storm, received a large crowd. She also spotted younger jazz fans in attendance. Ms. Cook also praised the large number and wide variety of children’s programs offered. She observed that some of the performers had a particularly large fan base. Old Business Teresa Austin and Liz Warms discussed events planned for the 125th anniversary of the library. There will be a birthday party for the library on a Saturday in March and Alice Rigney will be presenting a program on the art and artists of Tenafly on Sunday, April 5 at 5:00 p.m. Ms. Rigney’s presentation will be a fundraiser with wine and cheese. The 125th Anniversary Planning Committee will meet on Monday, January 6 at 2:00 p.m. Anyone who is interested is welcome to join. There was a discussion about starting the next three meetings of the Board of Trustees at 11:00 a.m. After some discussion, it was decided that the meetings would be returned to their previous time slot of 7:00 p.m. New Business A committee was formed to evaluate the performance of Director Julie Marallo. The committee will consist of Kathleen Cook, Martin Gilbert and Teresa Austin. Moved by: Kathleen Cook Seconded by: Patrick Rouse Unanimously accepted. The Board adjourned the closed session 11:58 a.m. to go into open session. Moved by: Patrick Rouse. Seconded by: Martin Gilbert. Unanimously accepted. The Board approved the following resolutions: BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED THAT: The Board of Trustees of the Free Public Library of the Borough of Tenafly in the County of Bergen, State of New Jersey approves of a 2% hourly wage increase for the Year 2020 for Sunday personnel and weekday/Saturday substitutes. All benefits contained in the Tenafly Public Library Personnel Manual shall remain in effect unless altered through negotiations between the Director and the Board of Trustees. All benefits contained in the Tenafly Public Library Personnel Manual shall remain in effect unless altered through negotiations between the Director and the Board of Trustees. Moved by: Teresa Austin Seconded by: Elizabeth Warms Voting as follows: Teresa Austin – Aye Patrick Rouse - Aye Kathleen Cook – Aye Elizabeth Warms - Aye Martin Gilbert – Aye Soon Juhng - Aye BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED THAT: The Board of Trustees of the Free Public Library of the Borough of Tenafly in the County of Bergen, State of New Jersey approves of a 4% base salary increase for the Year 2020 for Administrative Assistant Ann Marie Connolly. Final salary shall be adjusted for longevity where applicable. All benefits contained in the Tenafly Public Library Personnel Manual shall remain in effect unless altered through negotiations between the Administrative Assistant and the Board of Trustees.
