MINUTES OF THE BOARD MEETING
February 10, 2020
The Board of Trustees of the Tenafly Public Library met on February 10, 2020 at the Library for its regular
Board meeting.
Board Members Present: Mayor Mark Zinna, President Patrick Rouse, Vice President Kathleen Cook,
Secretary/Treasurer Soon Juhng, Teresa Austin, David DiGregorio, Martin Gilbert and Elizabeth Warms.
Absent: Mabel Allen
Staff present: Library Director Julie Marallo and Administrative Assistant Ann Marie Connolly
The meeting was called to order at 7:03 p.m. Julie Marallo reported that notices of the meeting had been posted
and sent to the media.
Oath of Office – David DiGregorio
David DiGregorio took the Oath of Office having been reappointed by School Superintendent Shauna DeMarco
for a one-year term as her alternate.
Minutes
Board members approved the Minutes of the regular Board meeting of January 13, 2020. Moved by: Kathleen
Cook. Seconded by: Soon Juhng. Unanimously approved. Board members approved the Minutes of the
Executive Board meeting of January 13, 2020. Moved by Martin Gilbert. Seconded by Soon Juhng.
Unanimously approved.
Treasurer’s Report
Soon Juhng reviewed with the Board the Library’s financial statements of January 2020. She noted that she had
examined and approved the statements and reported that they were current and accurate. A motion was made to
approve the financial reports. Moved by: Martin Gilbert. Seconded by: Elizabeth Warms. Unanimously
approved.

Director’s Report
The Friends committee for the 125th Anniversary of the Library met today to discuss the Family Birthday Bash
scheduled for Saturday, March 29th from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. and the Alice Rigney Art and Artists of Tenafly
fundraiser to be held Sunday, April 5th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tickets will be $25.00 per person, $40.00
per couple. The Friends plan to aggressively advertise the event and send out invitations to many dignitaries in
the area. Harvey Dunn’s The Garden Party and Battle of the Bastille paintings will be on display.
The New Jersey Library Construction Grant came out on January 6, 2020 and is due on April 6, 2020. Ms.
Marallo mentioned that the grant would cover 50% of the cost of the project. The Board discussed the Grant
Assistance Proposal presented by architects Arcari & Iovino. After discussion the Board approved of the $7,500
proposal. Moved by: Martin Gilbert. Seconded by: Teresa Austin. Unanimously approved. Mayor Zinna
advised that engineer Andy Hipolit would consult with architects Arcari & Iovino and advise the library about
what is going on and alternative strategies.
President’s Report
Patrick Rouse spoke of the outstanding job Ms. Marallo did at the Council Meeting of January 28, 2020 in
presenting the facts of the NJ Library Construction Grant and circumstances facing the library at the present
time. Mayor Zinna and Board members agreed with him.

Report from the Mayor
Mayor Zinna discussed several Borough matters. Included was the change in the utilization of more than one
engineering firm in the future, and a report on the status of the Clinton Inn construction project. Also, the Dog
Park opened this Saturday at 9:00 a.m. The hours are from dawn to dusk.
Mayor Zinna plans to hold three Saturday morning Town Hall Meetings a year. The first will be on a Saturday
morning in April.
Report from the Superintendent’s Alternate
David DiGregorio reported that Tenafly High School held an all-girls architectural competition at the school. It
was a more hands on program and was won by Northern Valley. The Chinese New Year celebration was
postponed and is now scheduled to be celebrated on February 14, 2020. There is an exciting student art
installation being done in the school hallways. David also asked that more people (young and old) be
encouraged to attend the next classical concert at the high school. He will be sending more information over to
the library to post and Kathy Cook and Soon Juhng volunteered to bring flyers to the Senior Center.

Closed Session
At 7:35 p.m. the meeting went into closed session to discuss a personnel issue.

The Board adjourned the closed session at 7:40 p.m. to go into open session. Moved by: Patrick Rouse.
