TENAFLY PUBLIC LIBRARY MINUTES OF THE BOARD MEETING October 18, 2021 The Board of Trustees of the Tenafly Public Library held a teleconference Board meeting on October 18, 2021 for its regular Board meeting. Board Members Signed-In: President Kathleen Cook, Vice President Soon Juhng, Secretary/Treasurer Martin Gilbert, Teresa Austin, Meena Dogan, Shama Haider and Elizabeth Warms. Absent: David DiGregorio and Patrick Rouse. Staff Signed-In: Library Director Julie Marallo, Administrative Assistant Ann Marie Connolly and Library Assistant Jinwoo Yi. The meeting was called to order at 7:09 p.m. Julie Marallo reported that notices of the meeting had been posted and sent to the media. Minutes Board members approved the Minutes of the regular Board meeting of September 13, 2021. Moved by: Soon Juhng. Seconded by: Kathleen Cook. Unanimously approved. Treasurer’s Report Martin Gilbert reviewed with the Board the library’s financial statements of September 2021. He noted that he had examined and approved the statements and reported that they were current and accurate. A motion was made to approve the financial reports. Moved by: Shama Haider. Seconded by: Elizabeth Warms. Unanimously approved. Correspondence None Director’s Report The State Aid for 2022 is $7,951 - an increase of 26.6% over the 2021 amount of $6,278. The 2022 1/3 mil amount of $1,588,000 is a 4% increase over the 1/3 mil of 2021. In 2021 there was a decrease in the 1/3 mil amount. In October there were many building issues, primarily with squirrels. The roof project should be approved at the Borough Council meeting on October 19 and hopefully will improve some of the problem. The library facade construction should begin in the spring if the building materials are available. The Tenafly Library Friends will sponsor a Facebook live streamed concert at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 20th with the Metamorphic Winds Saxophone Quartet. Many thanks to Jinwoo Yi who will stay that evening to help out with the streaming technology and to the Friends for setting up the concert. We will not be doing any live concerts until further notice. On Sunday, October 24 at 1:00 p.m. the Friends are having a Fall Membership Get-Together outside near the community garden. Please come join us. On October 26 at 7 p.m., there will be an author talk with Eleanor Kohn. Future Friends programs include an interactive workshop with Susan Golden and Dr. Norris will return in early December with a “Party Hearty in the Middle Ages” lecture. President’s Report Kathleen Cook encouraged all Board members to support the Friends in every way possible including renewing their Friends membership and attending as many of the programs as possible. Martin Gilbert stated that all Board of Trustees members should be members of the Friends. Old Business None New Business The Korean Festival will be held at 4:00 p.m. on October 21 at Huyler Park. The Mayor and his wife will renew their wedding vows. The second Little Free Library will be installed in Griffin Park and will feature mostly children’s books. Marilynn Friedman, Sally Ruback and Julie Marallo picked the perfect spot right where the ice cream truck parks.
