TENAFLY PUBLIC LIBRARY MINUTES OF THE BOARD MEETING January 9, 2023 The Board of Trustees of the Tenafly Public Library met on January 9, 2023 at 7:00 p.m. at the Library for its regular Board meeting. Board Members Present: President Kathleen Cook, Vice President Soon Juhng, Secretary/Treasurer Martin Gilbert, David DiGregorio, Julie Lev, Nicole Motz, and Elizabeth Warms. Absent: Teresa Austin Staff Present: Library Director Julie Marallo The meeting was called to order at 7:04 p.m. Julie Marallo reported that notices of the meeting had been posted and sent to the media. 2023 Board Reorganization and Election of Officers Oath of Office – David DiGregorio David DiGregorio took the Oath of Office as a reinstated member of the Library Board. Oath of Office – Nicole Motz Nicole Motz took the Oath of Office as a reinstated member of the Library Board. Oath of Office – Kathleen Cook Kathleen Cook took the Oath of Office as a reinstated member of the Library Board. The election of Board officers for 2023 was held. The following were nominated: President – Kathleen Cook (Moved by Martin Gilbert. Seconded by Elizabeth Warms). Elected unanimously. Vice President – Soon Juhng (Moved by Kathleen Cook, Seconded by Elizabeth Warms). Elected unanimously. Secretary/Treasurer – Martin Gilbert (Moved by Elizabeth Warms. Seconded by Soon Juhng). Elected unanimously. Minutes Board members approved the Minutes of the regular Board meeting of December 12, 2022. Moved by: Soon Juhng. Seconded by: Elizabeth Warms. Unanimously approved – David DiGregorio abstained. Board members approved the Minutes of the Executive Board meeting of December 12, 2022. Moved by Soon Juhng. Seconded by Kathleen Cook. Unanimously approved –David DiGregorio abstained. Treasurer’s Report Martin Gilbert reviewed with the Board the Library’s financial statements of December 2022. He noted that he had examined and approved the statements and reported that they were current and accurate. A motion was made to approve the financial reports. Moved by: Elizabeth Warms. Seconded by: Soon Juhng. Unanimously approved. Library Funds Budget - 2023 The Board discussed the 2023 Library Fund Budget presented by Library Director, Julie Marallo. After discussion the Board agreed to the budget as presented. Moved by: Soon Juhng. Seconded by: Elizabeth Warms. Unanimously accepted. BCCLS 2023 Certification of Agreement The Board discussed and agreed that the Tenafly Public Library was in compliance with the rules and regulations of the Bergen County Cooperative System Certification of Agreement. Martin Gilbert moved to sign the Agreement and Elizabeth Warms seconded the motion. Unanimously approved. Board President Kathleen Cook and Library Director Julie Marallo will sign the BCCLS Certification of Agreement. Correspondence None. Director’s Report Ms. Marallo gave the Board an update on the redesign of the teen area. She will be joining Teen Services Librarian Florence Pao at the next Teen Advisory Group meeting to get feedback from the teens about what they would like to see in their new area. President’s Report Kathleen Cook discussed the high attendance numbers at recent children’s programs, particularly Gingerbread House Decorating and a program about animals, Eyes of the Wild. Old Business None Report from the Mayor Nicole Motz said that the Mayor was still exploring roof options. Report from the Superintendent’s Alternate David DiGregorio discussed the updates to the Tenafly High School Library. Electrical outlets will be installed beneath the tables to allow more charging stations. He also mentioned that the District’s new Superintendent, Bruce Watson, and Assistant Superintendent, Jeff Gorman, were filling their new roles nicely.
