TENAFLY PUBLIC LIBRARY MINUTES OF THE BOARD MEETING March 13, 2023 The Board of Trustees of the Tenafly Public Library met on March 13, 2023 at 7:00 p.m. at the Library for its regular Board meeting. Board Members Present: President Kathleen Cook, Vice President Soon Juhng, Secretary/Treasurer Martin Gilbert, Teresa Austin, Julie Lev, Nicole Motz and Elizabeth Warms. Absent: David DiGregorio Staff Present: Library Director Julie Marallo and Administrative Assistant Ann Marie Connolly. The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. Julie Marallo reported that notices of the meeting had been posted and sent to the media. Minutes Board members approved the Minutes of the regular Board meeting of February 13, 2023. Moved by: Kathleen Cook. Seconded by: Soon Juhng. Unanimously approved. Board members approved the Minutes of the special Board meeting of March 7, 2023. Moved by: Elizabeth Warms. Seconded by: Soon Juhng. Unanimously approved. Treasurer’s Report Martin Gilbert reviewed with the Board the Library’s financial statements of February 2023. He noted that he had examined and approved the statements and reported that they were current and accurate. A motion was made to approve the financial reports. Moved by: Soon Juhng. Seconded by: Elizabeth Warms. Unanimously approved. Correspondence None Director’s Report On Wednesday afternoon of March 1, 2023 a patron called the Tenafly police reporting disruptive behavior of an adult male patron. Four officers arrived and escort him out of the library. Ms. Marallo and the Board discussed patron behavior and the complex guidelines for handling disorderly conduct. President’s Report The Mad Science program Marvels of Motions on February 17, 2023 was interactive, informative and well received. Old Business The Board discussed the library’s communications with the Tenafly Borough Council, Mayor Zinna and Andy Hipolit, the engineer from Colliers. A list of questions was prepared to be presented to Borough Administrator Jimmy Homsi for forwarding to Mr. Hipolit. Upon receipt of Mr. Hipolit’s reply, a special Board meeting will be arranged to discuss the information received. 1. From the attached blueprint received from Colliers, exactly which sections of the roof would be worked on in this project? 2. What is the square footage of each section to be worked on? 3. What materials will be used? What are the costs of these materials? 4. What do you expect the labor costs to be? 5. Does the estimate include replacing the underlayment where needed? If 100% of the underlayment needed to be replaced after years of leaks, how much would that cost? 6. How did you arrive at the $500,000 estimate? New Business None Report from Mayor’s Alternate Nicole Motz discussed the need for all parties involved to work together for a new roof. Report from the Superintendent’s Alternate None Citizen’s Portion of Meeting None Any Other Business None Adjournment The meeting adjourned at 8:26 p.m. Moved by: Martin Gilbert.
