TENAFLY PUBLIC LIBRARY MINUTES OF THE BOARD MEETING September 11, 2023 The Board of Trustees of the Tenafly Public Library met on September 11, 2023 at 7:00 p.m. at the Library for its regular Board meeting. Board Members Present: President Kathleen Cook, Secretary/Treasurer Martin Gilbert, Teresa Austin, Julie Lev and Nicole Motz. Absent: David DiGregorio, Soon Juhng and Elizabeth Warms. Staff Present: Library Director Julie Marallo and Administrative Assistant Ann Marie Connolly. The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. Julie Marallo reported that notices of the meeting had been posted and sent to the media. Minutes Board members approved the Minutes of the regular Board meeting of June 12, 2023. Moved by: Teresa Austin. Seconded by: Kathleen Cook. Unanimously approved. Board members approved the Minutes of a special Board meeting of August 1, 2023. Moved by: Teresa Austin. Seconded by: Kathleen Cook. Unanimously approved. Treasurer’s Report Martin Gilbert reviewed with the Board the Library’s financial statements of June, July and August 2023. He noted that he had examined and approved the statements and reported that they were current and accurate. A motion was made to approve the financial reports. Moved by: Julie Lev. Seconded by: Kathleen Cook. Unanimously approved. Correspondence The Board discussed a Tenafly resident’s letter to Mayor Mark Zinna and Kathleen Cook which expressed disapproval of the Library’s hosting a Drag Queen Story Hour in October 2022. Director’s Report The 2023 Summer Reading Program, sponsored in large part by the Friends, was a great success. The library was quite noisy and packed with children eagerly participating and joyfully collecting their reading points to fulfill the books-read challenge. Many adults participated in the adult challenge and expressed their thanks to the staff for offering programs they could participate in. The many programs offered were all fully booked with waiting lists. The children’s materials circulation has exceeded the pre-pandemic rates. President’s Report Kathleen Cook reported that according to her granddaughter the Summer Reading Program was super. Ms. Cook concurred and praised the staff for their efforts and for the enthusiasm they showed for the program. New Business At the request of the Tenafly Police Department, the Library will close at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September12, 2023 in preparation for Tenafly Community Night. The Policy Committee will meet on Tuesday, September 26, 2023 at 11:00 p.m. at the library. The Board reviewed the cosigning amount limit presently in place for the library bookkeeper. After discussion the Board approved the following resolution: BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED THAT: The Board of Trustees of the Free Public Library of the Borough of Tenafly, in the County of Bergen and State of New Jersey, hereby establishes the cosigning check limit for the library bookkeeper at one thousand five hundred dollars ($1,500.).
