TENAFLY PUBLIC LIBRARY MINUTES OF THE BOARD MEETING November 13, 2023 The Board of Trustees of the Tenafly Public Library met on November 13, 2023 at 7:00 p.m. at the Library for its regular Board meeting. Board Members Present: President Kathleen Cook, Vice-President Soon Juhng, Secretary/Treasurer Martin Gilbert, Teresa Austin, David DiGregorio and Elizabeth Warms. Absent: Julie Lev, Nicole Motz. Staff Present: Library Director Julie Marallo and Administrative Assistant Ann Marie Connolly. The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. Julie Marallo reported that notices of the meeting had been posted and sent to the media. Minutes Board members approved the Minutes of the regular Board meeting of October 16, 2023. Moved by: Elizabeth Warms. Seconded by: Soon Juhng. Unanimously approved. David DiGregorio abstained from voting. Treasurer’s Report Martin Gilbert reviewed with the Board the Library’s Financial Statements of October 2023. He noted that he had examined and approved the statements and reported that they were current and accurate. A motion was made to approve the financial reports. Moved by: Teresa Austin. Seconded by: Kathleen Cook. Unanimously approved. Correspondence None Director’s Report The Borough informed Ms. Marallo that the library roof replacement project is completed. The Children’s Department is doing exceptionally well. The many programs being offered to infants through young adults are all filled to capacity. There is a noticeable increase in the amount of younger children in attendance throughout the day and particularly after school with their older siblings. Children’s circulation has now reached beyond the pre-pandemic levels. Many thanks to the Tenafly Library Friends for sponsoring the Metamorphic Winds Saxophone Quartet on Sunday, November 5. The performance was packed with enthusiastic patrons, most of whom joined the Friends after the performance in the McCandless for the 2023 Tenafly Library Friends Apple Cider Social. The Friends online account, Stripe, was hacked. It was a painstaking and expensive task to try and reconcile the account and the decision was made to close it. President’s Report Ms. Cook thanked all the Board members who attended the Friend’s 2023 Apple Cider Social. She shared with the Board a report that stated the City of Patterson was investing $650,000 in its Library. Also, the Town of Cresskill is currently investing 1.3 million in their Library. At Ms. Cook’s suggestion, the Board will meet at 6:00 p.m. before the December 11, 2023 Board meeting to enjoy time together and share some special holiday desserts. Old Business The Light fixtures in the Borough and Library have been replaced with LED bulbs through an energy efficiency grant received by the Borough. New Business 2024 Board Meeting Schedule The Board discussed the 2024 Library Board of Trustees meeting schedule as submitted by Ms. Marallo. After discussion the Board approved the schedule as submitted. Moved by: Kathleen Cook. Seconded by: Martin Gilbert. Unanimously approved. 2024 Committee for selection of Board Officers The Board will not form a committee to select 2024 Board officers and will discuss and vote at the December 11, 2023 Board meeting. Report from the Mayor’s Alternate None Report from the Superintendent’s Alternate David DiGregorio informed the Board of the many innovative and positive projects that the high school staff and students have implemented so far this school year.
