TENAFLY PUBLIC LIBRARY MINUTES OF THE BOARD MEETING February 12, 2024 The Board of Trustees of the Tenafly Public Library met on February 12, 2024 at 7:00 p.m. at the Library for its regular Board meeting. Board Members Present: President Martin Gilbert, Vice President Kathleen Cook, Teresa Austin, Julie Lev, Yelena Meytes, Nicole Motz and Elizabeth Warms. Absent: David DiGregorio and Soon Juhng Staff Present: Library Director Julie Marallo and Administrative Assistant Ann Marie Connolly. The meeting was called to order at 7:05 p.m. Julie Marallo reported that notices of the meeting had been posted and sent to the media. Minutes Board members did not approve the Minutes of the regular Board meeting of January 12, 2024 due to the absence of a quorum. New Board Member Board members warmly welcomed Yelena Meytes to the Board of Trustees. Yelena took the Oath of Office as a new member of the Tenafly Library Board of Trustees. She is finishing out the unexpired term of Patrick Rouse ending on 12/31/2025. Treasurer’s Report In Soon Juhng’s absence, Board President Martin Gilbert reviewed with the Board the Library’s Financial Statements of January 2024. He noted that he had examined and approved the statements and reported that they were current and accurate. A motion was made to approve the financial reports. Moved by: Elizabeth Warms. Seconded by: Kathleen Cook. Unanimously approved. Correspondence None Director’s Report Julie Marallo will present the Library’s one line budget to the Mayor and Council at the budget hearing on Saturday, March 2, 2024 at 9:00 a.m. Members of the Board of Trustees and Friends of the Library will attend the meeting. During discussions with new board member Yelena Meytes, it was suggested that there was a need for substantially more communication between the Borough Council and the Library Board of Trustees. Forming a joint liaison committee between the Library Board of Trustee members and the Tenafly Borough Council members was enthusiastically discussed. Yelena suggested it be modeled after the current joint liaison committee between the Tenafly Borough Council members and members of the Tenafly Board of Education. President’s Report None Old Business None New Business None Report from the Mayor’s Alternate Nicole Motz will discuss with Mayor Zinna the formation of the joint committee between two members of the Library Board of Trustees and two members of the Tenafly Borough Council. The schedule would be worked out so that the committee would meet several times during the year. This will insure that there was correct information being communicated about the library’s finances, commitment to the needs of the Tenafly community and future plans to grow and meet the ever evolving technology and space required to continue to offer to the public an outstanding, up-to-date library.
